Recently purchased a used Morrison Shawnee recurve with "D" limbs #45@28" it is an older one and the tiller is not adjustable but I got it for $325.00 so I'm happy with the price. I need advice on set up and arrow selection or what works best for you. It did not come with a string, but figured out it was 58"AMO and I set the brace about 7 5/8". I have tried 2018 arrows but it seems to like my heavy carbon arrows best, GT traditional 340 with 100gr inset and 125 gr field point. like to hear what others think.

You're way too stiff. My Shawanee is 50 at 29 and I shoot .620's with 285 upfront for whitetails. I wouldn't advise that unless you know www.acsbows.com/bowtuning.html click on 'download printable version'. I have to jump through some special hoops to make it work.

You don't mention anything about your draw length, so I'll only tell you .600 or .500. Hope you have a short one because the bow's short.

My draw length is just a little under 28" and the bow draws smooth to my full draw length. I have not had a chance for bare shaft testing but the arrow fly well.

Thanks Bowmania, you mention that this Shawnee was a short bow (AMO 58") and that the draw length needed to be short. So what are you thinking the recommended draw length should be for a bow this size? The riser measures 14" and limbs are the "D". The Morrison web site no longer has information on riser/limb lengths.

I would think 2016 aluminums with 145 to 175 grain points or

I would be throw 500 spine arrows on that thing. Also, the Morrisons I have owned liked a lower brace height. Try it at 6 3/4" - 7"

2016's or even 2014's.

For arrows I'd say 1916s or 2016s in aluminum.

Beautiful bow. No advice on arrows but if those are flying well, I'd stay with them.

G, the reason those arrows are flying straight is because they are soooooo stiff, the bow doesn't deliver enough energy to bend the arrow into paradox. You'll be amazed on how much better a tuned arrow will fly.

If you shot those 340's a bare shaft with a fletched and you're right handed the bare will be left of the fletched. But since your are sooo far off on spine you might find a false positive.

DON'T TRY TO TUNE BY JUDGEING THE FLIGHT OF A BARE SHAFT. Get them to impact first.

Bob made a lot of short bows. I think 64 was the longest and that's what I have. If 62 was his longest, I wouldn't have one. Not sure what draw 58 would be good for??? Call Brandon who took over for Bob. Longer is always better, you can't get away from string angle. It's the reason Olympics all shoot 70 and all compounder shoot a release. Keep in mind that the exception proves the rule.

Bob suggests a very low brace but my 64" shoots best at 8 inches or a little higher. Mines 59@32 and likes 2219 aluminum with the side plate built out slightly. You got yourself a good bow. Mines been my go to bow for about 9 years. She just don't know how to miss.

Yep a 58" bow is a lost cause. Don't waste your money on more arrows. I'll send you $325, then ship it to me just so you don't have to deal with the grief of that junker as you prepare for the Olympics.

By the way, I already have the exact same Shawnee bow/limb combo and mine likes 30" CE Heritage 150's with 175gr up front. My draw length is a little over 28".
