Unfortunately, I'm one of those that can't get a knife (or broadheads) as sharp as I'd like freehand. The Lansky cured the problem. :^)

After using it a while, I thought it could make a great tool to sharpen two-blade broadheads as well. So... I brazed a rod on the end of a file. Took care of that problem too.

I've been usuing a Lansky system for probably longer than a lot of folks on here have been alive. For the money it's hard to beat. You can spend a bit more and get infinite angle adjustability with a KME, but I've been entirely satisfied with mine. I'd spring for the diamond hones if I was going to use it one the harder knife steels available today. They even offer radiused hones for concave edges like Simmons. I've even modded a 3-sided Jewelstik to accept a guide rod to use with the clamp like Jim is doing.

I have a Lanskey, but bought a Worksharp. The Lanskey is good, but the Worksharp is WAAAAAAAAAAY better.

I've had and used mine for many years. Two years ago I upgraded to the new style clamp, which has a deeper jaw bite. Before that I invested in diamond stones and use the extra coarse mostly. It allows me to align the grind marks close to the axis of the broadheads I'm sharpening, for an aggressive edge, or, I can use finer stones to make a mirror finish.

Tmbb, I bought one of those work sharps years ago. Saw it in fur fish and game. I never could get the hang of it. The fact that the belt doesn't have a hard surface behind it, just never worked. I know a lot of guys like them and it's operator error here. My best results are kme. I just bought the jewel stick for it to do my simmons.

Lanskey is great. I got one on trade. A welcome piece of gear. Good idea Jim. Not capable for small blades. Its a relief to makes items sharp instead of dull lol. Rooty

Yes Rooty, I'm the same with the Rada. I can get them sharp but not sharp enough. I hope the jewelstick on kme does the trick on my Simmons. Jim

I have found over the years that no one system does it all. I like the lansky system, it works very well for me until the blade gets real wide. I own a KME system which works well with large blades but ain't worth a hoot for small narrow blades. The work sharp system( they have several), I prefer the bench block design that has interchangeable diamond grit plates. This system works well for large broad heads and boning/fillet knives.

Kme is probably the best one. But theses don't work for I can do better with a file. Rooty

Once you get the angle cut with the file, it just a few strokes with the stones and they'll be SCARY sharp. The best part, then, it'll only take a few strokes to keep them that way.

At a young age my grandfather taught me how to keep kitchen knives sharp with a steel in the early sixty. I don't remember seeing that gadget maybe the 50's ? Rooty
