How do you guys find new spots to hunt do you just drive around?

Depends on your state if you do that in Texas you get arrested.

Kinda spoiled where I live. We have plenty of huntable land that is open and not used very much. One of the advantages of being a poor country boy in S.C. Pennsylvania. It is fun though to try a new area now and then. The state game commission is a good place to start if they have maps to access on the internet.

Check last years harvest info and compare with this years county bonus doe tag numbers allowed. Then I hit the nearest Lake- Resevoir-or river in my raft with trolling motor and start checking crosstrails for "big tracks" like them boys in the film "Escanaba in da moonlight" say.."big deer make big tracks" hehe!

When I want to find a new spot here locally, I find places that look appealing from the road and knock on doors. Once I explain that I hunt exclusively with a longbow, people don't seem to see me as much of a threat and I get permission to hunt more often than not. Some of the people that hunt themselves don't want any competition of any kind though and I don't blame them a bit.

Don't know what it's like in New Hampshire but like George said there's a lot of public land here in Pa. I usually look at maps with designated public hunting areas and go from there. Good luck.

the only problem is alot of people would hunt public land

In the event your public land is crowded, and you have difficulty obtaining permission from private land owners, leasing private land is an option if you can afford it.

I walk around.

Platt book and knuckles to your door knocking hand. Farmer used to want you there hunting deer, now they want your money.

I don't blame them. But we can thank compounds for that - leased land and preference point.
