I got lucky on fleabay and won the bid. It will take some time to get to me, but I am really excited... Unfortunately it is NOT the Bushmaster, but it is a longbow, at 66" with a 50lbs draw.
It looks to be in ok condition, but I will want to refinnish it as I don't want any water ingress as it will be used for hunting..
Should I remove all the finish or simply sand the lose stuff off and paint with tu-oil? Any advice would be much appreciated..
Thanks Alex

Is it wood? Or fiberglass?
Can you post a pic or two?

Its wood and is a 956 model. Its being posted to a friend because the ebayer does not want to post abroad. Then hopefully my friend will send it quickly... I will ask him to take picture for me..
I am still looking for a Bushmaster though and was just lucky to find this.. .Good hunting weight too at 50 lbs.
Cheers Alex

I just bought one from Mr. Stout. Great bow. You will really enjoy it. I have the recurve version also (two piece) love it too.

Congrats on a great find! How can you not like the simplicity of that awesome take down design. Good luck with it.

I am a little concerned about having to revarnish it... I have never done such a thing and I struggle with varnishing a simple piece of wood without getting bits in the finish... :)
I wonder why this take down system is not done by major manufacturers... Clearly it can be done.. Alex

If the finish is flaking or compromised then it should really be removed. Sandpaper and/or a cabinet scraper will take it off easily, just go easy on that woven glass. Spray can poly or Tru- Oil wiped on are both pretty foolproof and will give you good results.

Thanks Mahantango,
Can I make a scraper out of a sheet of metal? I have brass or steel in various thicknesses or should I buy a plastic scraper?
I am not sure about using a spray of varnish, and I can get my hands on tru-oil, so I will try that.
Thanks again. Alex

Google " cabinet scraper ". That said, you can use a dull pocket knife or a piece of broken glass (carefully).

Thanks alot.. .Now I just have to be patient until it arrives.. .Hopefully before Christmas. Alex
