Do es anyone here shoot better with a glove instead of tab? I just got a new bateman tab 3 under and just dot shoot as good as with my glove. Does that make sense. I though a glovecwould give a better release.

I also shoot 3 under. When I first started shooting I used a glove. I used the Big Shot glove. I found over time the string would make an indentation on the finger tips and mess up my release. I thought I had a good clean release until I tried a tab. It was like night and day for me.

I shot with gloves for over 30 years before I switched to tabs. I get a far better release with a tab. But if gloves work for you that's great.

If you just got it then it makes sense you are not doing as well. I have to give a change like that at least a few weeks and many session and shots.

Your mileage may vary, but I found going from a non-cordovan glove to a cordovan tab a "quantum leap" in slickness off the fingers and I didn't like that much of a surprise release. A "Superleather" 3U tab like the Black Widow was much closer to the feel of my glove. I can shoot cordovan tabs now fine, but I had to work into them.

Nothing wrong with a glove, personal preference.
I will say I used a glove for 40 yrs then switched to a tab couple yrs ago It was a slow transition for me but now I prefer a tab, I recently switched to 3 under also. I can use either one now but with a glove my fingers feel restricted and a tab protects my fingers better. I am use to the protection. To get a glove that protects my fingers like I prefer, it will be a thick glove and I just dont like the restriction.
Go with what works but you may need to give the tab a little time. Also, it's personal when it comes to gloves and tabs so you might want to try different tabs.

Get 'em both broken in and then see what you think.
I switched from glove to tab and would only go back if I lost my tab.

Started with a tab, went to a Damascus style glove for awhile..several years, then back to a tab. Nothing inaccurate about gloves though, one of the best barebow shooters I ever say used a glove.

Yes. I shoot much better with a tab.
I shot with a glove for years. I tried a tab on/off for a couple of years before it finally stuck. I just couldn't get used to it, but I wasn't giving myself enough time with it.
I finally forced myself to use the tab exclusively for two weeks. Once I did that I fell in love with it, and I will never go back to the glove.
Had to do pretty much the same thing when switching from split finger to 3under style shooting.

Again, I'm not sure what you are telling me Crow. You say you are not as good with the new tab as with your glove and then at the end you say that you thought the glove would give a better release. Sounds to me everything is like you thought it would be, so what is the problem?

Also, Howard Hill and others used gloves with a hard insert in the finger stalls. This kept grooves in the leather to a minimum for a better release. Hill used whale baleen. The modern Howard Hill glove uses a nylon insert.

I've always thought that one of the best lines in one of G. Fred Asbell's books was when he recounted the time he threw a tab in the camp fire. My sentiments exactly.

It seems like many folks switch from glove to tab but few go the other way. Excellent archers in both camps. Bryon and Howard used gloves very well. The Oly. shooters use tabs very well. I always thought Bryon would be even better if he would try a good tab but then he doesn't need to be any better. They are just so much lighter, handier, and slicker for me. Plus you just roll it to the back of your hand for hands free climbing or what ever.Just my nickle's worth. >>>-----> Ken

I started w a tab, and a compound PSE NOVA 2. That was 35 yrs ago. Now I use a 3rivers dura glove , and only shoot traditional bows. I'm still learning, but I still shoot w a tab, depending on the bow.

I shot a glove for 4-5 years and tried a tab and I love the tab and that was almost 30 years ago. I can buy a new tab same kind I have or a different name/kind one and shoot a few arrows and I am good to go.
With a glove when it got broken in it was about time to buy a new one. When I bought a new glove It took a while to break it in and ya time for a new one. That's how it worked for me so I will stay with a tab.

Started with a glove shooting split finger. Now shoot three under with a tab. Took some getting use to, but now glove and split feel funny. Shoot the way you like, but you have to try for a while to give it an honest try.

In my case, down here in Florida, where it's hot and humid most of the year, I prefer a tab when I'm hunting because if I'm not actually in the act of shooting, the tab stays turned out of the way on the back of my middle finger, keeping my fingers cool and allowing that hand to perform other tasks. If an opportunity for a shot should come up, it's easy enough to spin it back into place again. That being said, it seems every amazing archer from Howard Hill on down to today's YouTube marvels seem to use gloves. Are there any "Byron Fergusons" out there who use tabs?

I shot a glove for many, many years. Tried tabs during that time, but could never get one that felt comfortable. Then, tried a Black widow calf hair tab. Worked great. Now also shoot a Bateman cordovan leather tab. Much cleaner release for me. After 40-50 years or so of shooting a glove, I don't think I'll be going back to one now..

Glove, tab, glove, tab, and now back to a glove. Guess I like a glove for hunting because it's always on my fingers, but you get used to what ever you use.
Years ago I found a nice tab in a parking lot, tried it, and liked it, so I put my glove away. Later that year I shot a doe a tad high in the spine. Got another arrow nocked to shoot her again. Almost did one of those double clutch releases, so I took a deep breath and then made a perfect release and shot her through then lungs. I the realized the tab shot off my fingers. I never found it.

Kind of a handy thing about a tab.... You can trim to fit.
Usually, gloves (of ANY kind) are too long in the fingers for me, and there's no way to get rid of it. That translates into shifting my anchor farther out to the side of my face, which causes me to hit left of where I had intended.
And those crazy S.A.M. tabs.... best o' both worlds for me...

I made the switch from a 3 Under Tab to an Alaska Super Glove with the Cordovan tips, and then to a American Leathers Big Shot and finally to the "Full Shot"..,and that's all she wrote.

I'm still shooting split. Don't think I'll change that. Actually shot the last two bucks I killed with bare fingers. On the first, I had misplaced my glove, and it wasn't in my pack when I got to my stand. On the second, the deer came by right after I got into my tree stand and I hadn't had time to get my tab out of my pack.
That's one of the nice things about shooting a stickbow. In a pinch, can shoot them with bare fingers as well.

I have to agree with Clydebow. I used a tab recently while on an elk hunt. BIG pain in the butt. We got caught in some pretty good down pours. The thing curled up like a dry leaf. When I got back to camp that night I threw it in my tackle box and used my Crossover Glove.

I guess I don't get why a tab would be more or les of an annoyance than a glove? Or why a tab would be more or less affected by weather than a glove if both are made from the same material?

I started with a clove, and then switched to a tab a few years later. Why? Prior to every shot with my glove I'd jab my fingers into my chest to seat the stalls in order to get a nice feel on the string. Also my glove had thick stalls and I couldn't feel the string wiyth my little #55 bow. I've shot with a cheap Neet calf hair tab since then. I remove a layer and the string feels just right.

Actually not a Neet tab. I got a cordovan tab once because I do go through Neet tabs fast. I couldn't feel the string with that tab. Lots of Neet tabs ever since. lol

I recently made the switch from glove to tab and I won't look back. I'm shooting s Bateman 3 under tab and it's slickity slick. The glove brand I was using would develop thick ridges in the finger stalls and on multiple occasions I could feels the string snag those ridges and it just felt awful. Mt release has never been better than what it is now with a Cordovan tab
