Some of you will remember arguing about the distinction of this bow :) . The first set of limbs I made are self osage limbs and work fine. These limbs are tri-lam limbs I whipped up this weekend. The back is hickory, the core is jatoba and the belly is yew, 1/4 sawn. Hopefully I get a chance to tiller them out this week.

Nice profile!, is the grain orientation on your riser flat sawn? Or is it laminated?

Steve the riser is an I-beam style. The center is purple heart and the outsides are goncola alves.

Chris, how did you decide on that limb wood combination? Unique, eh?

Number one reason is that its what I had in my shop. Also, hickory is very strong in tension and yew is very strong in compression. The two should work well together. The jatoba came from a couple hunks of scrap a friend used to protect other wood lams he shipped me. I ran them through my planer and used them as center lams. The yew wasn't thick enough to make fades, I needed the extra thickness.

Bob I cant lie, the yew scares me a bit. There is something about its feel I don't like. Crumbly might be the best word? Its not too dry, that's for certain.

What color is that yew in person? It looks more like osage in that picture.

That was quick. Very soon into the tillering process one of the limbs cracked across the 1/4 sawn grain. Junk! Its all part of this game we play.
