I would like to see pictures of bows with osage limb veneers that have darkened. I have a TimberHawk recurve that I bought at ETAR from Scott Mitchell. I've been hanging it in the sunlight for a couple of weeks and it looks like it's starting to darken some.

It certainly darken to a nice brown. The finish will slow the process.

It is a process that takes months, not weeks. I had an all Osage longbow called a Mongoose. I sold it but think I have pics somewhere.

Any direct daylight will speed it up. Direct sunlight works in days. Take pics as the days go by so you don't forget what you started with. I have a friend who put his selfies in his wife's tanning booth. That's very fast.

I have a large chunk of Osage to build risers with that has turned a nice brown. If I cut into it will the brown color be the same inside?

Only surface deep, you sand it away with just a few swipes. The color is UV sensitive only that which is exposed to light changes color.

You could tape it off and make an interesting camo pattern.

Thanks everyone. I have pictures of the day I bought it and will take more as it ages. I really like the looks of it.

Its kinda surface deep, but not completely. The darkest will always be the very outside. I have used 25-30 year old osage staves that had some nice color deeper down, but nothing like the outside color, as Steve mentioned.

Thanks guys. First bow I've had with osage used. I'm not in a hurry for it to get too dark.Mike
