Wood burns a lot easier than aluminum.

I think he's referring to the electric heating wire touching the aluminum shaft. Hmmmmmmm.......

I would say, sure it's safe......as long as you do it outside!! If you do it inside you're likely to get your head nocked off LOL. I do it with Carbon arrows and I think carbon is probably as good of a conductor as aluminum. So I'm saying,.....Ya

There have been literally 100's of 1,000's of feathers burned to shape on aluminum arrows.

The wire would be no more, or less likely to cause harm to you touching the aluminum shaft, than it would a wooden shaft.

The reason that the wire burns the feather is because it has high resistance. In other words it doesn't conduct electricity very well. It just gets hot.

Just have to be careful if you have vinyl type wraps. It will burn holes in them quickly

Burns nice marks on cap dipped and crested shafts as well. Especially when your making arrows for your wife. I still hear about that one. Those were aluminum shafts, X7's no less.

The wire should not even come close to the shaft. You only want to burn the veins of the feather not the quill. You blend the quill in later with an exacto knife or grind it with a dremel tool.

Good info Bob. I am currently making a homemade burner just waiting for the transformer to show up. I had a young but it never really caught on. I usually have to try and retry things. Rooty

I would like to know more about the Dremel. Which tip or tips etc. I bet a foot pedal control would be a plus. Use to port cycliners on sleds. Rooty
