Do you guys rough up fiberglass prior to applying sealant ? Sandpaper ? What grit ? What sealer is recommended ? I don't mess with glass bows much, so need a bit of advice.

I currently use 320 grit but I have used 220 grit. Before buying a compressor and accessories I finished with MinWax Helmsman Spar Urethane in the spray can.

I always sand new glass down till smith, enough to take the shine off. While doing it you will notice just how non flat it is, lots of high and low spots. I finish sand the whole bow with 320 before applying finish.

Thanks for the info. Most likely will save me some unwanted results.

I start with 220 then go down in stages to 400. I've sealed it with Deft and got very good results.

I just sand it like I do the rest of the bow, with the same range of sandpaper.
