Way too early for here, but I have no experience in your neck of the woods. Best of luck when you're able to get after them NOVA. I've got another month and a half to wait, here.

Bucks actually make scrapes year round. They are territory markers. I've found fresh scrapes in January, I've found them in the spring while turkey hunting, and I've found them in every month of the deer season. They just ramp up their scrape making during the rut.
Good Luck Wednesday Nova. I'm going tomorrow, but I'm not holding out much hope. We have had tons of rain down here. I went with my hunting partner on Thursday and all of the bottoms and bays were filling up then. I'm pretty sure we will have limited access and the area I was going to hunt will be flooded. Also, It is supposed to be 95F tomorrow with a 50% chance of rain in the afternoon.

Seems a bit early....but you know what they say....don't look a gift horse in the mouth! Good luck. I wish the season started this early in Texas! That is cool.

Our season begins October 1st. I have had bucks visit mock scrapes on opening day.

Lowcountry, I didn't know that. I've seen old scrapes that I assumed were made the previous fall, but in all the time I've spent in the woods, I've never seen a fresh scrape during the spring or summer. I guess we're never too old to learn something new.

I've seen scrapes early October but not this early. I always thought that your 3 1/2 year old does and older go into heat early. I see fawns in April and see them clear to late May. The fawns early means that the does got bred early in October.

All deer, including fawns make scrapes year round to some degree. Its much, much deeper than simply mating. There is a lot of conversation going on within that dirt spot and that branch above. I've seen more females working scrapes in the daylight than bucks. Just have a look at the hoof sizes you are seeing in and around them.

The earliest I have found scrapes was the last week of August.
