Ok gents!! I have 2 longbows that I want some opinions on my arrow selections. 1st bow is a Great Lakes Silent night, which is a Hill style bow with back set limbs 68" 42@28. The 2nd bow is a Great Lakes Long Night, Mild R/d limbs 66" 55@28. My draw length is about 31.5". I have some VPAs 200 grain BH's that I want to use for deer/hog hunting.
I am currently using GT 5575 Hunter XT full length for the lighter pound bow .
I am currently using GT 7595 Hunter XT and GT 7595 Nugent on the other bow.
These arrows seem to fly well with fletching but I haven't bare shafted them.
I need to buy some more 5575 arrows but I don't think they sell them anymore or they have changed the name. I guess the spine is still the same though??
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Rob

They are all very much too stiff for me. Even worse if your bow is not cut near center. I shoot a 30 1/2 inch arrow so maybe the extra inch would make that much difference but I wouldn't have thought so. >>>----> Ken

5575 are 400 spine. 7595 are 340. Hope that is what you're asking. Both are too stiff for your setups. You need 500 or 600 spine. MP

Well at full length, which I assume is 32", you will need the 400 for your setup. Guys need to remember the static spine is at 28", so you are adding 4" to the length and using 200 grain up front...plus the insert which you didn't mention. The 55/75 was a misnomer to start...as is 75/95. Those figures are basically nonsensical. A 55-75 is 400, and a 75/95 is 340 as mentioned above. If your fletched arrows are flying well...and we can't see that, you are good to go.

FYI... the 600 are only 30" full length. Be sure to check that before you order

RG,
Don't worry, you can still get the old style. GT just started making some skinny arrow shafts in the traditional style.

500s 32.5" on the 42lb
400s 32.5" on the 55lb
And I'm guessing these are 7 Lakes bows, not Great Lakes.

Both my bows are not cut to center. They are both more than 1/2 the width of the riser, I guess that's how you word it? I've never really had any instruction on how to setup a bow correctly. Basically tried some fletched arrows in different weights and bought the ones that seemed to fly straight. I've used Stu Miller's calculator before but maybe I didn't use it correctly. Thanks guys!

There's an archery shop in Little Rock that has quite a selection of traditional bows and accessories. Think I'll go by there this week with both my bows and try some bare shafting. Sorry for my ignorance and I appreciate all the help. Rob

Asking questions is how we learn Rob. Compared to most people on this site, I don't know a whole lot either. MP

Ok I've bare shafted both bows. I'm good on the 7 lakes long night. But the other bow I'm too stiff. I'm going to the archery shop tomorrow to try some 500's or some heavier inserts for the 400's. I have to admit bare shafting in a pain but I'll feel more confident if I can get the arrows flying straight! Love seeing the flight of an arrow, bare or fletched!

I watched a bare shafting video by Ken Beck with Black Widow. Very informative video!
