Greetings All,
How long do I need to dry snake skins before I skin a bow?
I just skinned a snake 2 days ago...It's been drying since...The part I'm using is pretty nice, but the heavier belly scales are pliable and still damp...is there a set "time" to using skins?
Thanks in advance, Jason

Sometimes I skin them tack them down to a board or pin to a piece of Styrofoam. Dry in a day or two and roll up store in shoe box till a bow is ready to back. Have to rehydrate till pliable though.
Some I'll skin and put in a freezer bag, fill with water, squeeze out air & freeze into an ice cube. Thaw and are already hydrated to put on a bow.
Just remember to take a dull butter knife to flesh any meat off. John

This time of year in Texas it doesn't take more than a week. And also, if you are going to put it on a bow right away, you don't even have to dry them. All you need do is clean them well, and put them on.
