I found an old picture I thought I'd share with you. This is me with my first bear, killed with a 50# self bow and arrows I made about month earlier. It wasn't a big bear, but considering my age and the fact that I had to drag him over a mile by myself, it was quite an accomplishment.

No way you could kill a bear with a selfbow, I'm not believing this story. LOL Fake news.

Just another example that 'girly' bows can bring down big game. ;) bvd

Please tell me that wasn't what you were wearing when you arrowed him?

You look a little small for a 50 pound bow. Congrats on your Bear.

Thanks for the replies, I was hoping some of you might get a laugh out of it. My Grandfather killed the bear. He told me he was deer hunting at the time and found himself a downed beech tree at a comfortable angle, with a nice back rest that put him about ten feet up, with a good view of the stand of beech that the deer were feeding in. He said he'd been there for a couple hours when this bear came along. My Grandfather liked bears and had no intention of shooting him until the bear decided to walk up the angled tree my Grandfather was sitting in.

You've got Davy Crocket beat. He had to wait until he was three before he killed his bear

I'm lucky to have any of the old pictures. When Dad died my sister went in without my knowing it and basically stole everything of any value, including his gun collection. I didn't care about the money so much, but a few of them had a lot of sentimental value to me. By the time I realized what had happened they were gone, for probably pennies on the dollar. When I asked about the pictures, she said she took what she wanted and threw the rest in the garbage. I found a few here and there when I cleaned up the mess she left behind, but that was it. Ya gotta love her.
