This one went into the oven a couple hours ago. This will be the first off of this form.
Had some fitting problems during the layup so it could be a wasted materials. Will know later tonight.

Bigdog has it. That's one of my five grandsons. He's my current apprentice. This is a new form and design. The next two off will be for him and his cousin IF all goes well.
Looking for about 45# @28" and 60" long on this one. All based on a SWAG. :)
Shut the oven off and left the bow inside for the night. We'll see how it looks tomorrow.

It's out of the oven. Still has some boogers on it but it looks like a good glue up. Some glue got handled onto the tape but nothing is on the glass.
Thanks Jeff for the tip on the frog tape! It comes off easily. It will need to be retaped to work on it but no problem.
Pics later today.

A couple pictures. No work done today. Did an elk scout and some stump shooting.
About 2.75" of reflex at the full length of 64". Going to finish it shorter probably 60" NTN.

Looking great!
"Is that Arrow shelf too far above the hand?"
For me that would have been too blocky and high. But the whole drop the arrow to your finger thing was based on the needs of instinctive shooting where people from Fred Bear, to Asbell advocated for an arrow at finger level. If you gap, then you are basically shooting sights, and there is a certain amount of advantage to having the arrow higher for better form at full draw.
So you can play it different ways based on what your needs are.

""Is that Arrow shelf too far above the hand?""....No.
Unless of course you are not comfortable with it that high. I shoot off a rest a lot higher than that. Very nicely done by the way, and that will have some mojo with the grandson helping.

like the way your hand sets in the grip. Are you going to radius the shelf at all?

Thank you you all for the kind words and opinions.
It is radiused but not very much. The shelf and window are both radiused to a point just above the deepest point in the grip. I guess I'm one of those closer to the hand shooters but I'm inclined to leave this one as is. And, yes, it is a bit bulky and I may go at it some more. Or maybe not.
Got the order in for materials for the two boys and should be getting going on them soon.
There is something a little different about that grip that I want opinions on but it needs another picture. I'll add it later.

I use inner tube strips in the prototype stage because it makes it easy to tweak the riser. This will eventually be converted to a fire hose system.
Shade, it's off a 1.5" form. It's 1.4** at the fades but I need to measure to be sure of the exact with. It looks widish cause the limbs narrow down right off the fades to narrow tips. So far it seems The stabilcore has a considerable effect on stability.

Looking good, I really like the unstrung profile, I'm guessing it will be a good shooter. Please post updates on performance after some testing, I have been thinking on something close to this.

Between the weather and doctor appointments things are going slowly. My "sanding area" is the great outdoors. In fact, most of my work area is outside. :^)
One more light sanding with 320 and it will be ready for finish.
I mentioned that I took some liberties with grip design so here are a couple pictures. This grip somewhat follows the shaping of a Damon Howatt Bandito. The change Is that the index finger also fits above the thumb rest.

I also reduced some of the bulk in the arrow rest. It could probably use more reduction but at this point it's going to be left as is.

It's been a while! Actually, I finished the bow with a reddish brown stain and Tru oil then decided it didn't look right so it was sanded down and redone with natural wood and a clear rattle can finish.
Final draw weight is 41# @28" which is in the desired range. In the end, the design is successful and the next two off for the two boys are already in progress with one small tweak. The tip wedges will be a little longer to extend the potential draw length a smidge and increase the draw weight slightly.

Sorry to rob a thread. I know this is an old one, but I was searching for wTk's posts. This was what came up. Looks like a good one. I have acquired some of his bow forms and riser patterns , tools and sanders, from his widow, Maxine Benson. RIP Galen. I'm hoping I can use some of his forms to build one of his T/D's in the near future. Any information you can give me about him and his bows would be greatly appreciated . I know that one of his risers was an adjustable metal riser that he called the "rat fink". A strange metal contraption where the limbs could be at different angles. Thanks! I'll post pictures of the forms soon. They have some serious curves for a longbow.

Chad, that PSE is still in progress. Somewhat interrupted by hunting seasons. :)
Have been working on correcting the limb pad angle and think I have at least an experimental solution. Sometime in the next week I'll put it up here as a project.
