I am about to refletch some old Bear shafts. They spined at 58-60. Has anyone removed the old crimped on tips? Any advice?

Here are the crimped tips.

That looks like it might be trouble.

It'll be interesting to hear the solution.

If they're long enough I would just cut them off, taper and glue a new point on. Otherwise, I haven't a clue. Good luck! Lance.

If you grab the very tip of the tip with good pliers and twist back and forth, gently, they will come right off. I did a dozen a few years back and all of them worked perfectly.

I just refletched some old Bear shafts. I did what Knifeguy said, just cut them off and retaper. 3 Rivers sells an attachment that glues on wooden shafts which allows you to screw on your tip of choice, ie, field tips or broadheads.

I agree with "Pearl", those are parallel ferrules, the ferrule themselves are very thin. The shafts will need to be tapered after point removal.

Just heat the very tip some till it's hot to the touch and with a pair of pliers, gently twist them like you are unscrewing them and they generally will slide off okay. Then taper as you would any wood shaft. If you have plenty of length you can cut them off behind the point of course.

Cut them off square and get some Reparrows.

Heat and pliers did the trick. Thanks Gentlemen.
