I sent this bow to Ken (Cueman) for a clean up. I had no idea he could make her look this good. Thanks Ken. Serial #3443
I know folks are probably sick of my comments on 1950's bows but this is my new pride and joy.

You need to look at some of the other great 50's bows as well. Sanders, Smithwick/Jennings, Staghorn, American Archery, Root, and many other of course. There were many talented bowyers out there and many don't get the publicity of other names that are routinely touted here. Find a good shape Smithwick Citation and you will have another you won't want to get rid of.

Yep, don't hesitate to post about those old classics; I never get tired of looking at them.
This would be a fun one to know the date of manufacture of, because it has riser lams in two different planes...and I'd love to know who was the first to start doing that.

I'm looking to acquire some photos of late 40s Drake bows with W. L. Miller's Toxhorn facings, or any other's of that era with Miller's facings.

X2 for George's post. I have an acquaintance with a Smithwick and it is to-die-for. When it comes to bows, I don't lust for much any more, but that is one to be reckoned with!

Catsailor might show the one I just sold him recently that bow had been redone. Purty stick too. Drakes are def sweet but Frisky needs a remake on his I like then it would really be nice.
I still have a 56" 43 weight that I'm hoping to be able to hunt sticks this fall.
Yours came out great as well.

RymanCat- I bet you DON"T have a 56" Drake. 54", yes, but not a 56".

Mart Mathew made the lion's share of Drake Bows. Therefore, the lion's share of credit should go to him.

Firedrakes are a pleasure to shoot...they are consistent and smooth and not touchy.
Short risers with long narrow limbs and fine tips make them sweet shooters...that is how Tom Baldwin described them.
