Do any of you find it necessary to use a stabilizer on your hunting bow??? I have a Mag bear takedown and I don't know if I want the added weight. Do you think there are more Pros than cons for using stabilizer?

I don't like the added weight and don't use one.

I have used my orginal Bear stab on my Mag a few times. It adds weight of course and if you cant the bow it feels awkward. I use heavy enough arrows so I donot feel any bow vibration. It does look cool with black riser, chrome stabilizer.

I agree with you guys, plus if you can't the bow, it actually causes torque, so I think I'm not going to use one. But if you keep the bow vertical the added weight does help stabilize the bow arm.

Makes -0- difference what anyone else thinks, or does. First question is WHY do you think you want a stabilizer on the bow?
And the stabilizer shouldn't cause string torque whether you cant the bow or not. Archers cause string torque.

Contrary to LW thoughts, I've shot my best scores and did most of my hunting with a 64" Bear Mag T/D (B+#3). The thought of shooting it (or any other recurve) without a stab never entered my mind. And yes, I used a slight cant ... but that was a long time ago, you know, before there was a "trad".
BTW - while it's true that a stab can cause a rotational torque if the bow is canted, a bow quiver will cause more torque than a stab ever will - a LOT more.
Viper out.

I tried the short hunting stab on the SK and I like it. I have one for my Mamba too because I like the feeling of the bow in hand with additional 12oz. An educated guess based on the heavy riser of my #74 recurve tells me I will be more consistent at 30 to 80 yards with the stab on. At 20yards down I see arrow groups tightening with stab on. The benefit of extra mass on riser in windy days is also a plus for me. Is it really needed? No, but once tried I like the subtle changes that come with it.

Try it, you might find your groups getting smaller, they do for me. Necessary no, but nice yes.

It's always best to try something for yourself. What you generally find is that much of the information you got otherwise was not correct when you actually try it. Some of the fun of archery is trying things personally. It's such a dynamic endeavor that you really can't say what another will find with their own experience. I like that extra mass myself and can cant the bow with zero issues.

The only way to know is try one for yourself. For some there will be more pros than cons, for others, more cons than pros. I have always found trying something new in archery to be fun, whether it worked out or not.

I have a A mag riser and a original Bear stabilizer. Don't see a need for a stabilizer on this bow. Also, have a 1970 Bear Grizzly. The stabilizer works a little better with this 45@28 inch bow. Just my 2 cents.

I have and shoot Mag risers and have stabilizers. I've tried a stabilizer and see no advantage on these bows only extra weight.

I would not want a big chrome bling thing on the front of my bow while hunting. I would have to paint it. A benefit I do see is a wrist strap is easily attached with a stabilizer. This enables a much more relaxed or open grip without fear of dropping your bow.
