I was shooting tonight and noticed two of my arrows had black marking between the fletches. The marks are obviously from the Bear Weather Rest. Does this indicate a stiff spine? The two arrows are the same (point weight, shaft length, spine, etc.) as the rest of the unmarred shafts and fly fine yet they appear to be rubbing the rest prior to leaving the bow.

Depends. I guess you could be rubbing the arrow as you draw. If the black mark is behind the shelf, then I'd say your arrows may be too stiff.
What arrows are you shooting? Length, tip weight, draw weight, etc. etc.?

Oops! Sorry, I see the mark is indeed between the fletch. So... I'd say, yes, you're arrow are too stiff. The shaft should have bent away from the riser long before those marks could get on the them.

In my opinion that rest is one of, if not the worst, rest out there. Rubber is not something that is known for non-friction. In fact your car has rubber tires.
You probably already know that at times drawing or letting down the arrow will bounce on the rest.
It's been out there for years and you hear people say, "I've done it for 30 year". I've done things for 30 years and now I've found out they were wrong.

Low -
Your arrows are too stiff, cycling late and causing the tail end of the arrow to hit the rest. It has nothing to do with the rest itself.
If the arrows were spined properly for the bow, they would only be on the rest for the first couple of inches after release, if that much.
Viper out.

Thanks - I thought that the marks were indicating a stiff shaft.

Just to be technically correct, they may or may not BE too stiff, but they are certainly ACTING too stiff.

Since the arrow sits on the rubber finger, this could be caused by a nocking point that is too low. MP

The arrow RESTS before release, doesn't slide on the rest after release. And it isn't rubber.
I happen to use one on my recurve...black marks from bad spine would seem to be helpful info. I don't get em'.
