I was fortunate enough to win the components to make a laminated longbow in April and here is what I did with it.

The kit came with the walnut riser block, maple lams, morado veneers and clear glass. I had some mesquite burl chunks on hand and made the stripes and overlays with it.

I left a 'live edge' on the overlays and filled the voids with turquoise and copper powder.

Really nice. Mesquite Burl? As long as I have been in Mesquite thickets I have never seen a burl on Mesquite. Looks good to me.

Fantastic bow. Is that your first bow build? Amazing.

Thanks for the compliments guys! Bones, a friend of mine gave me a couple of big chunks he harvested from a ranch on the Palo Duro Canyon. I think most Mesquite burls are found at or near the ground and are kind of few and far between. Artisans will turn bowls and orbs from it and it is very stunning. Not uncommon for bowls to approach and surpass the one thousand dollar mark. Clinton, I've been making bows since 2000 but don't make a lot of them.

Here are a few pics braced and full draw. The pictures make it look a little shorter and fatter than it really is.
