What is the additional adhesive pad used for since the rest itself has adhesive already on it? Is it to move the rest out a little more from the bow? The pad has a red peel-off side and a white peel-off side - what's the difference?

Don't know about the colors but the extra adhesive pad can be used to build out the rest a bit if needed for tuning purposes or to replace the rest if you need to take it off or want to move it to another bow. Always good to have spares.
