I just did my first set of spliced feathers for my 4 fletched carbons. I noticed a couple of things: 1) No matter how I tried to cut them all the same length the spliced pieces never aligned and 2) 2 of the 4 fletches were about a full quarter inch shorter than the other two??? If I cut them all at the same time how does that happen. I used the same feathers for standard fletching and never once had one shorter than the others???
How do I cut them so they are clean cuts and align well when finished?

Are you splicing onto full length feathers and then chopping? If so, then all pieces should be the same length and height.
Need more info on your process.

In order for splices to look great you have to match the height of the veins, the curvature and the oil line, otherwise the veins will not marry correctly.

Those answer a lot... I was using precut feathers. That's why I asked for help! Will get a burner.
Thanks!

I have just used an razor knife and set them on each other and then cut. They always come out darn close if not perfect. Shawn

Using a burner does make it a whole lot easier.

Make a template that you measured and use a exacto knife on butt splices. You should be ok and use like feathers not diff. manufactures like true flight with amf. Burner only makes the top cleaner not the proper measuring on butt splices.
