many years ago I watched a film that Mr Hill showed at a tournament supper. He killed a lion running across an open area , prolly near 100 yard shot. Lion charged at the hit, so Mr Hill shot it again coming on. Repeat again, then cameraman fell as the lion closed to 10 er so yards. Lion fell dead within feet of Mr Hill.

he shot another lion, a female, that charged unprovoked. Killed it with a head shot at very close range.

Hill had a six part series on his African hunts in Sports Afield from February 1952-July 1952.

DTala I have seen that film, he did not hit that running lion (when one hit a lion it always show a reaction). The lion he empty his quiver in are a different lion. The way they make the movies at that time are more story making and less documentar. Hill was a excellent shot and hunter but some of the movies are put together a little different from today's standards.

Hope it wasn't chained.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4kXKsxJGuo I was thinking the same, a camera and making a film was expensive and all necessary preparations was done. Snared, foottraped or something else, it was not free to run.

Those cameras anything but portable. If they technicolor they running three scripts of film. I they maybe needed to do some stuff to get good light pics, I don't care. The goal was to get it on film that could be marketed. I would not want to have the job of chaining and trapping a lion. All of the other African kills that were not filmed would have made a fantastic hunting movie. Imagine if Hill could have had digital cameras in his day, we would see a completely different thing, because his cameraman could keep up with the situation and the color could be light adjusted.

DG in Africa are dangerous. One of my good friends was killed by a elephant last autumn. He was on a photo safari. It attack the car from the road side, flip it over and pierced his chest with a tusk before he was able to stand up. We have attempted to film different DG hunts but the cameraman and I tend to crash when the music start. It is very intense and only a idiot will not understand that this might be the last time he face the music. Howard Hill was a famous person and everything was done to keep him safe.

That's gotta be Ron ;-)

I didn't know Ron was an exotic dancer? Jungle hunter gimmick, alot of dollar bills.

Guess that was the time when he misread about the hottest male revue show in Las Vegas and decided to start the hottest male longbow show in Michigan.

Lion and loin are both legitimate words so spell check wouldn't change them. I'm thinking Freudian slip. ))))))

I can handle the word loin when it is referring food, but the word loin and Ron's exposed butt cheeks is not the same. Who knew that there was money to be made being a traditional archery exotic dancer? Is there such a thing as trad archer male exotic dancer music to go with it?

Heck, as a composer, I always think of music. I am not sure the standard "chinka boom chinka boom chinka boom boom boom" would work here.

Sorry guys! That photo has to be posted at least twice a year :)

Heck in those days just getting to Africa was a chore. Plus for those who want to knock Mr. Hill he was not sponsored. He payed the bills.

Dude! That's some kind of lion cloth!
