I need to replace the straps to an older portable tree stand. Old ones looking a little shabby. Anyone have any suggestions. I thought of using ratchet straps from hardware store rated 1500 lbs.

I would double them up.

Yup, my guess is the ratchet straps at the hardware store likely would out perform the one that came with the stand.

Ever since I had a hanging stand strap fail I always use 2 ratchet straps on older stands. On a newer stand I always use original strap and one ratchet strap for a backup. My

Another vote for ratchet straps. Much easier to readjust belt tension than the ones that typically come with stands.

Lone Wolf has them for about 10 bucks.

Thank you. A little more reassuring now that I heard from others. Great source of information, this Leatherwall.

Yes, ratchet straps are very good. Take it from someone that has experienced it, ALWAYS use two straps or at least a safety rope, in case one fails or as in my case a squirrel chews thru one.

I tried transom straps from a boating supply store. Similar to ratchets but a bit bigger and I find easier to use

They make treestand ratchet straps that are easier to use.The hooks don't require you to reach around the trunk to ratchet.I think they are made by Big Game.Much easier to use.Search for them on Amazon.

Ratchet straps work great! I always use three per stand...one on top, middle, and bottom. Two would be fine...but 3 makes me feel better.

Ratchet straps are what I use too. They come in many widths and styles. If you hunt land where you can't leave the stands up I'd check out what 4nolz suggested.
