Anybody heard if the ski lift at Denton hill will be up and running. Been a few years since I been there, enjoyed that. Last year I thought I heard they weren't going to use it.

No lift. They rearranged the courses (7 of them) to better work without the lift. Here's a great link to ETAR that lists all activities and vendors, etc.

It won't be running this year. The lift needs a lot of work to make it safe to use. Until they get another vendor to operate the ski area, it's not going to happen. The state owns the place. Nobody wants to take it over because of the expense of the needed upgrades and the state isn't going to fix it up without a vendor. Kind of a catch 22.

I understand the lift will never be fixed. I wish Mike and his team would arrange for some locals with tractors and trailers to haul us up the mountain. I think they could put some money in their wallets hauling shooters up the mountain. I'd pay $5 a trip, 10-20 people on a trailer, they could do well. Denton is my favorite event, but some of us older guys and especially us with leg problems, that mountain is a real challenge. But whatever happens, it is a great fun event.

That thing will never be used again.

That thing will never be used again. Just take it slow up the mountain. Don't need a lift or tractors now that they rearranged the courses.

Denton Hill is one of just a few State Parks that are leased out to outside vendors. Mike has a long term lease but I don't know for how long. The skiing venue went south due to lack of skiers a couple years ago and that was what the lift was there for.

It was used in the summer for a lot of years during the Potter County Bowhunters Festival and the ETAR when the winter ski season helped pay a large part of its cost of use. It is a burden to maintain both physically and financially, and without ski revenue it has become too expensive. Like anything else that doesn't return enough profit to maintain itself...and pay for liability insurance, it will likely not be used again. Add to that the State Park system is one of the last entities to get any tax money from ol' Taxin' Tom Wolfe, our gubner.

I'm wondering if I might be ok by then to go up? Never liked that lift anyways especially when you get stuck on it. Plus I always thought some of the high up coarse's were dangerous as well also especially after the rain fell several times. Always worried about snakes too. LOL

Hope you are well by then Glenn. You can make a weekend of ETAR and never leave the bottom of the hill. Seminars, blanket sales, bullshit sessions, tons of vendors, and even a low lying course along Nine Mile Creek. Sometimes I find it hard to go shoot any targets when I'm have such a good time reconnecting and just BS'ing. You can also go visit the Pa. Lumber Museum across the road, or drive up to Pine Creek Gorge at Wellsboro.

Mike has a five year lease right now. I like the new courses myself but with Denton the shooting is a small part of the shoot. Widow

Keep in mind that there are a lot of older guys with bad legs that can't climb the mountain. I did it last year but it was a struggle at times. The lower flat courses were usually crowded because many stayed there and could not enjoy the courses on the side of the mountain.

If I can make it thats what I will do not shoot. Not sure if I will be shooting by then don't really think so. Not even sure if I will be able to walk very far by then either. Doing good but really weak yet. Loosing weight which is very good I need that. Not hardly eating either just not hungry. If I could shoot it would be the old guy coarse maybe practice coarse.LOL

For many years my wife and have only shot the target range by the lodge. We can fire off dozens of shots in the time we have stood in line at just one target on a course. They can get pretty busy on Saturday.

Denton is what you make of it. We shoot a ton, shop, visit friends, etc.

I remember going back in the old days. I would shoot daylight to dark. Now shooting is the least of my worries. I go to be with my NJ buddies.
