Wish I could go.

When they say "longbow" they don't mean "longbow."

Wood shafts, 2-blade broadheads.

Wish they didn't make you shoot wood with broad heads. I'll probably never make that shoot because I don't use woods. Sounds like a great shoot though.

It's here in B.C. again this year.

I'll be there.

"I'll probably never make that shoot because I don't use woods. "

Never too late to start, is it?

Q: Why, under "draw weight", do they not specify anything other than "Hunting weight"?

By "longbow" they don't share Leatherwall's big-tent, new-age definition (ie no 3 piece/ILF).

If I was going I'd take a straight-limb bow made by John Anderson, who is eager to take part. Plenty of Leatherwallers and sponsors make finished arrows that are sure to be good.

I have no idea what "hunting weight" means..maybe it has to do with broadheads, which are required. Maybe they don't want 30# bows shooting rainbows.

Guy's: NALS was started 35 or so years ago by three Canadians that were Howard Hill enthusiast and set the rules for a hunting style shoot using that type of equipment. Bows must be one piece, no elevated rests, string must not touch the limb except at string notches. arrows must be wood, fletched with feathers, and broadheads, bows must pull at least 40# at archers draw length. It was designed for those that agreed with those spec's. If you didn't agree, go to some other shoot or start your own. Its that simple!!! It wasn't set up for everyone, however there have been some NALS that had upwards of 600 shooters.

The early ones were really fun, 200 or less attendees', it was like a family gathering, you new everyone and looked forward to seeing them each year. Most of us would arrive the Tuesday before and help set up the range. In the evenings we would barbeque and have potlucks, tell lies around the central camp fire. Too bad you missed the early ones, they were fun. The last several years the rules have become laxed and it was more about making money than having fun.

Sounds like fun to me! The early ones sounds super...money destroys everything.

I wish I hadn't started this thread. Archery, bowhunting, clubs, shoots, and this event don't deserve negativity.

I think both of my longbows would qualify; sounds like fun, but a bit out of the way from here ;)

Very handy to low-tick country :-)

I'm packing the camper now. I've only missed 1 NALS in the last 27 years, it's still a fun shoot and in a great location.

Hey Jeff, wish I could join you up there!! Haven't seen you in a while. Going out of country for a month, (5 weeks) though. Tell everyone I said hello!

Hi Larry, great to hear from you. We were hoping to see you at the Western States shoot. Some of the group are working there way up the coast right now, I'll be catching up with them on the island. Have a safe trip, I'll pass along the greetings to everyone.

Wish I had planned to go. InI the past kids did shoot for fun. Jeff and Larry, next year! It is a good shoot and broadheads add a bit to it.

Jeff, I was just back from Cambodia and in Montana to help a newly widowed friend work her calves. Just didn't have time! I was looking forward to Western States too! Miss Tim! Wish he was still up to traveling!

Larry, I wish Tim was traveling too, I miss the stories he would tell. Hope things worked out ok for your friend and the calves.

Skip, I was hoping to see you and the rest of the gang up there. How was the hog hunt?

The last time I went it was on Paul Brunners ranch on the Black river in Montana. It was a great shoot with a novelty shoot from a canoe floating down the river.

A funny highlight was when Gene and Barry Wensel drove in after dark and set up their tent. The next morning one of them, I think it was Barry had to go to the store for something. He took off in the car dragging the tent through the camp ground. When they set up camp they were missing a tent stake so they tied the tent rope to the car.... Those Wensel boys will do anything for a laugh. :):):)

I wasn't planning on it but a good friend was going so he talked me into it. "Asked me" lol. Are gear is already on its way ,some other friends are making an extended vacation and driving up with there camp trailers. They offered to take our stuff so it wouldn't get damaged or lost on the airlines. I went to Petaluma last year and had a great time. I hear it's quite beautiful there so I'm looking forward to seeing the country and hopefully running into other leather wallers.
