Thinking out loud with my computer and fingers...
I have 3-piece recurve. 64" Samick Journey (64" version of the 62" Samick Sage). I am thinking of playing with it.
I was wondering what kind of performance you would get by narrowing down a set of limbs. "Narrowing" meaning making them more narrow from the edges, NOT by sanding down the glass layer itself ( back/ belly).
Let's say I want 45# at my draw length. What would I get by staring with a set of limbs starting at 55-60#, and narrowed them down on the edges until I reach 45#.
What change in performance would I see, if any, from doing this -about to the similar draw weight (this case 45#) from a "factory standard limb width" (wider).
I was wondering if a narrower, "thicker" limb at 45# might have more limb/arrow speed than a 45# wide and thinner limb.
In some way, it would be "sort of similar" to having "thick, narrow longbow limbs with a recurve design."
I have a 1959 Kodiak Special, 68" / 40#. I've read comments that one reason they (Kodiak Specials) are smooth drawing are due to their "long, slender limbs."
Just wondering if "narrowing down" / slenderizing a much heavier limb would give improved performance over a wider limb AT EQUAL DRAW WEIGHT? Or, no difference?
Just thinking and wondering outloud with my keyboard for a potential project. Thanks in advance for input.
