Anyone have any turkey hunting luck in the rain? I've already scheduled a week off and can't change it.Sure hope it doesn't rain as much as the forecast shows.I'm guessing the birds will still move around some. Hope one of them is in the giving up mood for this old turkey less hunter.Lol

Around here you tend to see them out in the fields during rainy times. They are creatures of habit though, so your area may be different. They still eat, sleep and procreate though....weather or not. ))

What George said. Other than if it is raining kinda hard or windy you will probably have to call a little louder than normal.

Ditto George and Big Daddy. Down here in Central Florida, a drizzly day brings them into the open.

Yep. Rain on the leaves in the woods messes with their hearing, so they head for the fields where the noise is less and they can see farther/better.

I took my uncle on his forst turkey hunt about 10 years ago. It was rainy ands crappy the whole morning. He grumbled and grumbled about us "wasting our time". It wasn't an hour later and he was posing with a "book" bird I called in for him and the biggest smile you ever seen. Turkeys love gentle rains, its the hunters that scoff at it :)

This topic came up last year. Yesterday was a very sunny beautiful mid 60s day. Six hens and a strutting tom were out in the middle of the open field across the road from my house, late afternoon. All the days prior were rainless, and birds were in fields in various places along my travels. Generally, I see fewer birds in fields during rainy days. I don't think rain stops them, but I don't really think it does more to bring them out either. I think they like open fields because they feel 'protected' due to their exceptional vision, rain or shine. Maybe sometimes rain just tends to make them seek food that 'comes out' into fields during rain, like bugs and worms??? Just my observations.

If it is raining they will be in the fields or open woods where they can see danger since they can't hear it. They will also stay in the roost longer. But once it stops raining or it is a real light rain get ready.

Last year it was pouring but about a 1/2 hour after first light it stopped. Made a call and got a gobble, twenty minutes later he was on the ground. All on heavily pressured public land. It started raining again as I was walking out.

I'll see them in groups under trees in Northern California where I live. But what the heck there's so many liberals the don't have anything to fear. Lol

I like hunting them in the rain and have had good luck. Field edges in a portable blind.

I'm going tomorrow for a week and we have a cold rainy spell here too. I just bought some knee high rubber boots for this hunt.

Some of my best days hunting turkey have been rainy days.

In my experience they like open country during light rains and are still callable. When its a down pour they bunch up near cover but not necessarily in or under it. As stated above, right after a storm is often great for calling.

Turkeys are always in or nearby fields or open areas during rainy days.

Need to call loader in ran so they hear it. Be in fields when they want to get there with decoy or coys I like to use more like a little flock.

Down pour sucks stay in get there after it stops though so sit in truck and wait it out and watch weather updates on cell and curse the rain.LOL

Overcast and rain they stay in trees usually longer is right. I usually get screwed if they are still in tree and see me come in.

Had a bird the other day see me. Turkeys will eventually end up in fields ran or shine anyways if they are on your bush.

It was raining lightly all day day. This afternoon the wife and I took a walk thru a public hunting area that has a number of fields. We saw there gobblers during the 4 mile walk. Find a field that does not have a lot of tall grass and the birds will eventually make there way there. Only bad thing bout hunting in the rain is that I rarely hear much goblin.
