Just a quick question for guys making bows. When you fit the riser to the bow form, do you fit it right to the form or do you fit the back of the riser to the stack that would be laid up in the form? This would only apply when the riser has any radius to the back. Thanks,Frank.

I use tapered lams so if you fit it to the form without them, it's slightly different once you put a tapered lam between the form and the riser. So, if you lay the lams in the form and fit to that, you get to see the real fit.

I have seen many build-alongs where it looks like they don't do it that way so maybe its not necessary depending how the fades are and how much the riser can flex.

For the best fit,do what Glunt says, i.e., put the lams on the form, tape them in place tight to the form and fit the riser to them.

I'm with you on the riser to stack fit. I fit the riser to the lams. When I grind my lams I do a taper parallel grind. The taper stops at the fades and is parallel where the riser fits on the lams. Even doing that there is a difference in the fit to the lams. I haven't had any issues with glue lines by just going with the riser to the stack. Thanks, I was just curious how guys were doing it.Frank
