Im shooting a crow creek black feather long bow at 48 pounds. I have powerflight 400s full length with 100 grain brass inserts and 125-150 grain tips. Broadheads fly decent and arrows do too but have a little kick. My recurve is 48 pounds as well and shoots 500 spines with 100 grain brass insert and 125s cut to 27 inches. They fly like darts. Those arrows fly like junk out of my long bow. And my 400s kick a little. Im at a loss on what to try for this long bow. I would really like to stick with 125s and hooefullu the 400s

Given that you have a short draw (27" shafts) you should probably try 600s with that longbow. Your recurve is probably center shot so isn't critical on spines.

400's much too stiff for that longbow. Like jk said, a 600 and you will likely still need 150 grain tips...thinking a 29" or 30" arrow. If you want a 27" arrow, you will likely need .700 or even 800 spine with 150 grain tips.

They are bouncing. Too stiff, too long and then front loading to force them to bend can sometimes make it go 'boing.....'

Get a .600 spine, cut it too 29"s and try 175 to 225 grains up front and you will be good, I would lean towards the higher end of that! Shawn

Define "kick". are they kicking side to side as in fishtailing, or are they kicking up and down? 2 completely different things with completely different solutions.

I agree though that you are likely too stiff.

Raise or lower your brace height. If they are kicking your brace height is probably to low.

Alright I got a few different type of field points and started messing around with the 500s. I put on a 125 tip and messed with the braceheight a little and they flew like darts! Now my recirve has some fishtailing going on when I put a quiver on it but might just be the brace height since its a dacron string. Now i need to find a way to trade these 400s for 500s. Thanks a bunch everybody

IMO "flying like darts" is something we often say when we're still pretty far from right :-)

They can "fly like darts" when they're far from proper, while forcing us to aim to the right. Don't ask me how I know that.

make sure the mocks are not tight to the string . kicking and porposing

I'm not sure if its making me aim left or right but on both bows they hit dead center where I look. Might try bare shaft tuning just to see if they are flying like darts

If you're getting good flight and no shelf wear, shoot me till they wear out. But pay attention to them and don't order more without re-evaluating.

I've shot long 500's with 150grn but 600's are better for me

I'd still, after what you did above, advise against that until you find out where a bare shaft impacts compared to a fletched shaft.

After they impact in the same spot, OK then see if there's a need to make the bare shaft fly straight.
