I have traded with 1/2mile drag for his old kodiak hunter. I know these bows were designed for dacron strings but i remember a thread a while back about people using other string materials on old bears.

What strings would be safe for the old bow and maybe give a little better performance

Dacron only. Ignore what other string materials others have used.

Rhino on every bow. If your worried about take the slow road. Most pics are dry fires doing limb tip damage. Rooty

My Kodiak Hunter wares a B-55. It's shoots well and has plenty of speed to do what it was built to do.

You will get several suggestions.

I use B-50 on ALL my bows including my self bows.

A lot of people use non stretch with good results a d you're going to hear both sides. What it amounts to is it's your bow and ur risk alone. Listen to both sides but since it is your gamble it's also your decision.

WIFES TAILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the ones that don't know any different and haven't tested enough FF strings with padded loops can't led a horse to water and make them drink now can you.

GEORGE WILL YOU ENLIGHTEN THESE GUYS OF ff STRINGS ON CLASSICS. IF YOU HAVE A LONG DRAW THEN THAT'S DIFFERENT. I THINK THAT'S WHAT BREAKS CLASSICS NOT THE STRINGS.

I have skinny strings and padded loops on most of my classics it has made them faster and quieter and they look good.

Most will tell you it can't be done when it can. Padded loops is key though.

You have to make a personal decision, and one that isn't prejudiced just due to a a material. Some of us use new material on all our own bows. That said, if you want to use a softer, stretchier material, then stay with Dacron. My current vintage bows, both have BCY-X on them.

Since you know Dacron will be fine, start with it. If it is not doing what you want, then consider switching. You can also drop the string count to a more reasonable level on Dacron if you want without fear of damaging the bow. I an not as string sensitive as some here, and have shot a lot of bows with both string types, and have found that on several bows I tend to like Dacron and others I like FF.

You can use modern FF materials on that bow. I would pad the loops or wrap them in some good wool yarn. You will be fine but as has been said you do this at your own risk. Shawn

When you walk across the street you enter it at your own risk too. When you do anything it's at our own risk but really with this said you really won't know unless you try the high tech strings.

You can stay in the old string age or come up to the high tech string age you will see a big difference in everything if you try one.

RC, I agree with you completely. But, if someone thinks it's a big risk, B50 still works. As for me, the earth isn't flat. Stick in TN seems to realize if he walks too far, he ain't gonna fall off! And, whatever someone thinks, a Kodiak Hunter may be viewed as a fine old bow, but almost none of them are irreplaceable.

I use the high tech materials with a well made, padded string. Never a problem in tens of thousands of shots. It's just a choice...nothing more.

Lol I tried one in 1980's that came on my black widow crown jewell. It gave me 4 fps and more noise. I threw it away. My Morrison came with one, I tried b50 and lost 5 fps and lost the "thunk" sound. My Super k came with it. Its about to lose the thunk too as is my Sentman. As for durability. I had Donny assemheimer build me a bow in 89. I used it to show him how to build flemish twist strings. I used b50 he had at his garage. that bow still has that same b50 string. If you keep it waxed and it has the right amount of strands b50 will not break unless you cut it. Theres nothing wrong with non stretch but they aren't for me and neither are the exagerated claims.

Yeah you can put toe pads on the tips then wrap lambs wool around the upper limbs for around one inch before you use an 8125X string with lambs wool wrapped around the string loops.
