I keep all feathers off my turkeys. Any ideas other than head dress of what I can do with tail feathers?

Spread the whole tail out on a flat surface put borax on the fleshy part for about a month . when dry put a screw through it on the wall . makes a nice decoration and each fan will tell a story of were and how you took the bird . i remember most of the ones i have .i have a friend that his sister paints on the feathers she painted a strutting gobbler and a hen on one i framed it . i will take a pic and post it .

They make excellent fletching. In fact some of us prefer them to wing feathers.

Other than the normal put it on The wall. I have lots of them mounted also got a couple done ahead for my decoy. These are just lots of extras now. If I had a camp I would wallpaper a wall with the fans but I don't. I do use a few as decorations on the fur hats and wool felt hats I make. Thanks guys I appreciate the responses!

It works better than ok. As I just told someone, a lot of what gets passed off as "traditional" in archery (especially this segment), isn't. Most native people used tail feathers as regularly as they did wing feathers, for several reasons. The tail feathers are easier to strip and therefore easier to apply by hand, they have a tendency to be more durable, etc..

Hvactech, awesome feather painting and frame.

I make a lot of arrows for myself, as well as wife, daughter, sister, and some others. I could kick myself for all the secondary and tail feathers I have thrown away thinking only primaries would work. I have since learned otherwise from experience. And peeling feathers is the way to go for sure.

That painting is awesome! I can make a lot of stuff but I am no artist! Wish I was!

Might donate some to the local scout troop. They look great on awards such as Arrow of Light.

I have donated many to the boy scouts who use them for projects.

I had an Amish lady do this for me off a S Dakota bird. Her husband made the frame. All for $150. I was pleased.

I also just was shown this wreath and would like to make one for my taxidermy shop door at Christmas. It's a gap vine wreath with the feathers hot glued on.
