I finally drew Wenaha last season. Boy, did I ever get ready for just 10 hours of hunting. My two partners and I really poured over maps and such. We debated on just what minimum bull I should shoot in such an Elk Heaven. I normally am not picky, but I had waited 18 years for the tag. Go big or go home they say.

But, the very first bull my bro-in-law called in put all doubts aside. He was at four steps bugling, but caught my attempt at a draw. He bolted to 20 yards, Greg called, and the bull stopped. I then slipped in a shot.

Blacktail bow, Abowyer head.

Scores 361 7/8", the new #2 trad bull in Oregon.

Mount will be done soon.

Brad, that is awesome, what a bull. Long wait, quick results doesn't matter any way you look at it; You did good. Shick

Congratulations. What a massive brute! Any idea what the dressed weight was and how old?

From: Brad From Hebo
Date: 21-Apr-17

No idea how much it weighed as we were miles in the wilderness. It came out pieces. But it was by far the most massive bull we've been on.

Still waiting on the tooth aging from the ODFW.

Thanks,

Brad

Thanks everyone!

Chief RID: Funny you say that. I distinctly remember thinking that if I can hear him gathering his breath after a bugle at four yards, he can definitely hear my heart pounding and my dry swallowing!!

MAN!!

I so wish my partners had their good cameras out when the bull came in. Here's a shaky cell phone pic right before my shot. I am just to the left of the pic.

When everything is done right hunting can be easy. What is always hard is getting everything right. And you still had to make the shot under pressure. That comes from dedicated and directed practice.
