What variety of bamboo can be used for shafts? I would appreciate common and Latin name if possible. Thank you!

Nomo, I have no idea what the official name is, but I've actually had pretty good luck with whatever they sell as tomato/plant stakes at the big box stores.

I use Tonkin bamboo

Do you think that just about any will work? I think I have found a free supply. The common name is little green stripe and the Latin name is more than I care to type, but comes up on Google under little green stripe.

I do. There is an invasive species here in Texas that grows in some areas. I have used it with very good results in the past as well.

I'm sure that there is "the best" type. But not sure I can tell the difference.

Tonkin is good, Moso is OK but can be a bit soft, Guadua is the best (just my opinion)

Tonkin and a Japanese specie are commonly recognised as being some of the best but other species reportedly work good too OSR

Anyone have experience with green panda bamboo for arrows?

its cold hardy and non spreading so I thought it would be great to grow in the back yard.... if it doesnt make a good arrow then there is no point though.

Japanese arrow bamboo. (Japonica}. Bought two plants from a nursery in Medford, Oregon last year. About 3 feet tall now. You can also buy the shafts from Jaap Kopendrayer in Georgia. makes excellent arrows, very similar to carbon in performance and very inexpensive. Spreads quickly.

Iyt's a shame Runner got banned. He'd have good advice on this. Bamboo is his gig.
