Tamerlane Temujin

Did Fred Bear have a trip or influence to that part of the world that would have made him use those names for his bows ??

Timur, historically known as Amir Timur and Tamerlane, was a Turco-Mongol conqueror. As the founder of the Timurid Empire in Persia and Central Asia he became the first ruler in the Timurid dynasty.

Genghis Khan, born Temüjin, was the founder and Great Khan of the Mongol Empire, which became the largest contiguous empire in history after his death. He came to power by uniting many of the nomadic tribes of Northeast Asia.

He was a history buff, and loved the history of the origin of the bow and arrow...including Asia.

but those were the only bows he named after Asian type history right ?

Grizzly, Alaskan, Kodiak's, cub's etc ..... those all revolved around "Bears" and the Patriot bow I can easily see

why not more naming's of maybe European bow influence or African I wonder ?

just curious is all - I didn't even know what those names meant until I googles out of curiosity

not sure on the tartar naming either

A perfect bowling game is a 300.The Tamerlane was also called an HC-300. Fascor was touted to be like the coating on a bowling ball! I got this from talking to Frank Scott

He always said the humting bow names were because bears were his favorite animal to hunt. I would tease him and tell him thats because of his last name. He would chuckle and then get serious and say no it's because bears are the most likely to turn around and hunt you.

Only Fred would know why he chose the names, so you will need to ask him. I think it's pretty cool he chose those name basically from the birth place of archery.

My wife ask him what animal he liked to hunt best. After his answer she ask if that's why his hunting bows were named after bears. So we did ask him, lol.

The question was about Tamerlane, Temujin and Tartar. At least the one I answered did.

As Fred said in his "History of the Bow and Arrow", the history of the bow and arrow is the history of of mankind. He was a student of the origin of his chosen hunting tool, and loved every aspect of it. I'm sure his trip to India may have had some influence on the target bow names, as the mongols conquered the sub continent.

Tartar is what the European people used to describe the mongol hoard that descended on them from Russia over their eastern mountains. The most devastating invasion from the east since the Huns. The Europeans seemed as children playing at war to generals of the khan. They were no match, and put up little or incompetent resistance to the invaders.

The term "tartar" may familiar to folks who have studied catholic prayers from the early dark ages. A few close with a line similar to, "... and God save us all from the tartars." Papa Bear respected the mongols' mastery of the bow, both on the battlefield and off. Now you know the origin of the name...

Why did he name bows? I don't know, maybe he thought bows should have names. Me I don't name my bows as they are just tools I mean that would be the same as naming your monkey wrench or hammer what's the sense in that? But as long as this is a free country you may name anything you own.

I just started thinking about the names and was curious. I understand the Bear naming

I love Bass Cat boats.... they make a Caracal, a Phelix, a Cougar, a Jaguar ... a Lynx. I think that's cool to have a reason for the naming.
