No dogs allowed at the Classic unless it is kept in camp on a lead, and it is not a barker. No dogs in the vending /concession/range or work shop areas. Sorry and hope you understand. Had lots of trouble with dogs and crowds over the years so best to not have them around. Pappy

I think it's a good rule. I don't trust dogs in a crowd. I like dogs, but like most things, they have their proper place.

Love dogs! But leave your dog at HOME!

From: Pappy
Date: 21-Apr-17

Yep love my dogs and most all dogs for that matter but mine stay in the kennel while this is going on and TwinOaks in there home. Pappy

The Compton Traditional Bowhunters have had this rule in place at their rendezvous for years.

It's is one weekend, leave the dogs home and give everyone else a break. Don't put the shoot organizers on the spot.

It the dogs drown out my snoring and the coyote!

M.P., it's like the gremlins don't give him water after midnight. :-)

Are you sure? Trapper can help you guys find your arrows at night.

Date: 26-Apr-17

Good looking dog Calvin, love the color of the eyes. Pappy

From: TrapperKayak
Date: 26-Apr-17

Thanks Pappy, he's a great dog. A bit of a clown, and real smart. He does find my arrows too, and rarely barks. Wish he would bark more sometimes actually. He won't do his duty anywhere but in woods or tall grass away from any trails, and is great therapy for people due to him being so affectionate. His only drawback is that he likes to lean on you, and he is 95# - likes to throw an affectionate cross-body block on you, so more unstable people would probably get knocked around some. If all dogs were like he is, I'd bet there would be dogs allowed at more shoots. But they aren't and it is a no-brainer that dogs aren't allowed at shoots.

The best place to take your dog when shooting is roving, and not to a shoot, no matter how good he is. No matter how well they behave, they would still be an issue - and could get shot even. Take your buddy roving instead! Maybe someday I will make it to Tennessee for a shoot, never been there.

Ya my girls are the same way, great around people and great around other dogs, and to top it off they live at the farm where the Classic takes place but they will be kept up while it is going on, they don't like it much. I can see it in there faces, they are thinking this is my home. Pappy

Yeah, it is real easy to tell what's on a dog's mind if you have had a lot of them and know how to read them. They really do communicate a lot even if they can't talk. You can tell something's bothering them and see their faces communicate - sometimes in the way they hold their ears. Your lab reminds me of my ole Kayak... I hope your shoot is a great success and a lot of fun.

Pappy, I looked over the other thread on the TN Classic and it looks like a great shoot, well organized and attended. Some day I will make this shoot, but this year I will be flying to CA on May 5 and be a long ways away from Tenn. Have a great time!

From: JusPassin Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Hope you have a great shoot, even without the dogs. LOL As for service dogs, don't even get me started on that fiasco.

Looks like yours like to find horns, Mine like to fine dead deer. Thanks for the well wishes, maybe yall can try and make it down someday. Pappy

From: TrapperKayak

I hope to, looks like a beautiful place you have there. I looked for my lost buck last fall with Trapper for four hours that night and three the next day but the rains came and he finally had crossed a road. He led me to the road but couldn't cross it since it was posted on the other side. I never found him. Trapper's first attempt at finding a hit deer...could have used your dog. :^) Last I saw, the deer was still alive, limping in nearly the same spot I shot him in, two weeks later. Hope he is still alive and well. Kayak was the shed freak, found dozens over the years. Trapper finds lost arras...very efficient. Still training him on deer - its hard to keep him off them, from chasing them, but he does obey reluctantly.

When is the Tn Classic? Didn't we spend all winter on a tread about this that was hundreds of posts long?

From: Clydebow
Date: 26-Apr-17

"When is the Tn Classic?" That info is in the "20th Tn Classic" thread that has been running on this page since Jan. 4th.

From: PECO
Date: 26-Apr-17

Exactly, I have been reading about dogs at the classic all winter, then silence, now a new thread. I thought it was over, and we are having the same discussion. Oh wait, my bad that is normal here.

From: Clydebow
Date: 26-Apr-17

"Exactly"?? You asked when it is, and that's where the info is. Nothing about dogs there.

It's next weekend Peco,May 5/6/7, not sure if you are just trying to be funny if so fine I will laugh, if not you sure don't have to open and read any of it. That's what we do here is talk and fellowship at least that is what I thought the forum was for. Pappy

Sorry. Maybe you can make a human friend at the Classic. I'll be at registration on Friday and Saturday. Say hello. Love dogs, but they aren't human.

Go to a dog show.

"Go to a dog show" LOL

From: Pappy
Date: 28-Apr-17

Ya I really like the comment of the other thread where the guy ask " what do you think they would say if I cam in with my bow at a dog show " that about says it all. As Jimmy said I do truly love my dogs and everyone that know me very well knows that but I do keep them in perspective, they are dogs not humans. Yall have a good week I am headed to the cabin today and will be there until the Classic is over. Hope to see ya there. Pappy

Hell, I can't even leave my dogs at home when I'm there sometimes. Take for example last night during the thunderstorms, the ole guy freaked out, peed his bed and the floor, then tracked it all over the room, kicked Trapper off his bed and laid on it while the younger and submissive Trapper found a pee-less corner and waited there with his ears back in wonderment of what I'd do when I came down and discovered the fiasco - poor guys - say nothing of taking them to an event like the TN. Classic. Ya can't get mad at them, they are only dogs - kinda like children scared of monsters. Have a great time there at that shoot ya'll! Like that analogy - taking a bow to a dog show. Good one!

From: TrapperKayak
Date: 28-Apr-17

LOL. I know a guy named White Thunder Gomez. Just need to add a 'leTray' on the end and ya got it all covered... :) He's 1/4 Irish, 1/4 NDN, 1/4 Mexican, and 1/4 black. Go figure. Neighbor's got two or three walkers (sounds like 20) down the road (luckily for them they are 500 yards away) that never stop baying all day long, rain or shine. They are quiet at night thank God. Probably their vocal cords are shot by then. The only thing that could possibly drown them out is thunder. Or a thunderstick... :)

There hasn't been any dog haters on any of these threads. Just reasonable dog owners.
