Well I shot some 150 carbon express arrows, they weighed 511 grains... I have to admit they shot extremely accurate out to 25 yards didn,t shoot any further... good penetration on the target... widow was quiet, the carbons were more accurate than my cedars but the cedars hit with more authority behind them...but they weighed 565 grains...so stands to reason....carbons penetrated better but I guess because of the small diameter that would stand to reason... all in all I guess it comes down to what a guy likes best!!!!!

I'm guessing that with only a 54gr. difference in total weight, if you actually shot through a chronograph, and did the math, there would be absolutely no difference in how much "authority" the cedars hit with.

Tradhunter, whats the poundage on the widow at your draw? and did you add some mass up front or? I'm not familiar with the Carbon Express Arrows. What is the 150 comparable to in spine? Surely not a 150 spine?? That would be one stout arrow.

Noise doesn't declare a more powerful arrow.

Sometimes it is just the fat arrow shaking the target more. My cedars are only around 550 grn and they rock the target like that.

Large diameter arrows shake the target more and make more noise. I think you'll find that on soft tissue your carbons will still out penetrate em. Don't let guys talk you into going heavier. To a point lighter arrows WILL out penetrate heavier every time. On bone heavier works best, but not on soft tissue and it's been proven time after time.

What's the target material? If it's been shot a lot, it's darn near impossible to use it for any type of penetration testing. You'd have to be shooting different spots on an unused target to get any type of results. Even then, targets have varying densities at different points.

You don't have to know anything about the target material to get an idea of penetration.
There's roughly 10% differenc in weight in the 2 arrows. There isn't enough difference in penetration to matter unless one or the other combo is flying terrible.
It's physics and you can't change it.

Good for you. You have a set up that you have trust in, with accuracy and penetration, stick with it. I have used Carbons, and aluminum, but I just like wood arrows better. But, that is what makes it a personal choice.

CE 150's are what some call 35/55 or 500 spine. A decent shaft I found easy to tune from my 55# bows. I ran 100 grain inserts with 145 grain BH. Over 55# I prefer the 250 spine. A heavier shaft and a little more durable for me.
