So... we have alot of frogs in my area and i came of with the idea of traditional frog gigging. Anyone ever done this? Who sells a bow mount for a light and what heads should be used? Judos, broadheads? Sounds fun to me. Opinions/experiences welcome.

Brian, I normally use my bowfishing rig, and just wear my Petzl headlight.

Soemtimes if I;m camed soemwhere and find frogs and don't have my bowfishing outfit, I just use filed points or judos.

I can tell ya' now, it's pretty addictive. Especially if there are 2 or 3 of you out stomping the creek and river banks. Then you can bring a bigger hand held light and take turns spotting and shooting.

Done it and do it a lot! If the bugs are really bad a headlight is torture. Have a buddy hold a light on em. I use a judo or some such as long as the arrow is retrievable. Bowfishing gear if not. Frog legs are heaven, but when you introduce friends and family to them you get less and have to shoot more frogs! Matthew

My wife once dead centered a big frog in the chest with a field point (I was holding the light). The arrow lodged in some roots and in an instant the frog used his hands to pull himself up the shaft and gone, almost like he already knew how to escape.

The other day, MT and I were discussing frog hunting. We have no frogs in our area. That's another reason I might move to the south.

A friend and I bow hunted bull frogs when we were in high school. I think we used what ever we had on hand. It was a lot of fun.

Nothing gets me going like frog hunting with the bow. I use the most powerful headlamp I could buy at Walmart. It's done everything I need it to. Stopped using field points, just because hex blunts and hammers do a great job of killing them on the spot. Plus, they're less likely to disappear in the muck and mire.

I used to do it when I was a kid. Some really fun times and once in a lifetime shots too.

Frogs are an important part of the ecosystem and have been gravely effected by loss of habitat and pest asides. I haven't shot or gigged a frog in twenty five years but every time I see one I get tempted.

I'm Stucky, used to do it a lot (with field points). But they don't die easily. I'd rather use a fishing pole and little piece of red cloth on a barbless hook. Or a red fly. Frog legs are a rare delicacy now days. Haven't eaten any in many years either. Big bull frogs can be very wary. If you like frogging them, you better be able to deal with bugs, esp. mosquitos and deer flies. I personally would rather bow fish for something in a less buggy environment than a frog swamp.

I have never met a frog I didn't like. My vote would be leave those 'squito, deer fly, hornet eating rascals alone. Eat more chicken. He-he
