... to open up the "Instinctive Shooting is a Failure" thread anymore. I think maybe it has gone out of control! I'm afraid to look.

Bahahaha!

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 19-Mar-17

Jeffer. It's like Pandora's box. Best to just let it alone....if you really can. Maybe. Sorta.

From: Andy Man
Date: 19-Mar-17

Don't feel bad Jeffer

I let it go awhile back , just a bad dream

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 19-Mar-17

I didnt even open it

From: Jim Davis
Date: 19-Mar-17

That subject is a good example of confirmation bias at work. People only accept evidence that supports what they already believe.

I don't open those threads much anymore because it's hard for me to not start hating some of the posters.

I just wish the whole concept had never been called "instinctive." That's another thing that's hard for me: The misuse of the language by people whose vocabularies are very limited. They don't know the existing words that well describe a concept, so they misappropriate a word they know.

Ignorance is not bliss, but it's rampant.

From: woodshavins
Date: 19-Mar-17

Yep, just leave it be. No time for the silliness.

From: fdp
Date: 19-Mar-17

Why? Who really cares what folks do, or don't think about the way you or I do, or don't shoot a bow? I know it makes -0- difference to me other then when people start saying stuff that is just dumb.

From: rick allison
Date: 19-Mar-17

Agree Jeff...I just walked away from that mess.

From: PECO
Date: 19-Mar-17

I'm out of that one also.

From: nrthernrebel05
Date: 19-Mar-17

I read it when it was first posted and knew it would turn out to be a free for all. LOL People on here will argue about anything, let alone the "right way" to aim!!

From: Jim Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 19-Mar-17

It's a bunch of crap!

From: Archer
Date: 19-Mar-17

It's a good thing no one has an opinion on it.

From: olddogrib
Date: 19-Mar-17

I'm with Nolz....put the thread down and just slowly back away.

From: Car54 Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 19-Mar-17

I ran away..LOL

From: 1sthound
Date: 19-Mar-17

I went out and shot my bow the way I enjoy. And erased all that mess from my mind.

From: tommy 2 feathers

you have to forgive them, for they know not! what they don't know and that is simply the end of it lol

From: lawdy

Some threads become like a vasectomy gone real bad. Limp with no real purpose anymore.

From: DanaC
Date: 19-Mar-17

When a thread reaches 100 posts it's a safe bet that people are talking past each other instead of to each other. I'll pass. Said my piece in the 'other' IA thread.

From: Mpdh

Have no interest listening to someone spout off about a subject they know little about. MP

From: Tracker7

I opened it....but didn't bite. Let's go shoot some arrows now. Shoot straight friends.

From: JLBSparks
Date: 19-Mar-17

I didn't even slow down when I saw that thread.

From: Dan W

Thank you Jim Davis! Finally someone who really understands language, & that words actually mean things that really matter.

Spend time editing, copywriting, and proofreading & you just shake your head at all the fights that happen just because of sloppy & incorrect word usage.

"I just wish the whole concept had never been called "instinctive." That's another thing that's hard for me: The misuse of the language by people whose vocabularies are very limited. They don't know the existing words that well describe a concept, so they misappropriate a word they know."

X2, Bingo, & thank you!

I opened it and saw who the author was, and the post count. Knew then it was a cry out for attention. Nothing productive or educational involved in that thread.

From: Kodiak

I find it an interesting window into the human psyche.

Best thread in years!

From: DanaC

The term has been in use for a long time. Was just poring through an old (1964) archery book by Fred Bear and he uses it freely.

From: SHOOTALOT Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

I pass over the title "Instinctive Shooting Is A Failure" now without opening it but the title does still make me smile.

From: blue monday Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

Shoot the way you like the proof is in your shooting. If it works for you , which it seems to stick with it. I don't listen to any of the experts. I shoot instinctive righty and point of aim lefty.

From: 4nolz@work

Its too bad you cant see the thread starter on LW it would help avoid hand wringing.

Davids attempt at a Frisky thread. And it worked.

TOLD YOU TO DRAIN THE WALL BEFORE THAT CNN CREEP IN WITH FAKE TRAD NEWS.

NEVER HERD MORE BS THAN ALL THAT.

From: Bobby B
Date: 19-Mar-17

I'm with Jim D and others here.

Always felt that 'intuitive' would have been a more accurate descriptor for what many of us do with archery. I can't claim to have any instincts other than the drive to procreate as it is.

I really have no idea what I am doing when I aim and couldn't describe it anyway- makes my son nuts.

Not sure if it is better or worse that it also starts with an 'I' 8>)

Maybe starting a thread with THAT word would lead to some sensible dialog!

From: bradsmith2010santafe
Date: 19-Mar-17

I read it and posted, I did not take it personally,, i think if I posted less and practiced instead of facebook,, I would improve my shooting dramatically,, I have been practicing my" TURKEY HEAD SHOT" so that has been keeping me busy, and I find if I am shooting well, I sleep better and nothing much bothers me,,:)

From: Bob Rowlands
Date: 19-Mar-17

Had an hour to kill and read it for fun. That stuff used to bug me a bit years ago, but now Im older and really...just could care less. Imo I doubt anyone changes anything from what they read online. For the most part all these forums are filled with old folks just passing the time, where they can socialize in their drawers.

From: George Tsoukalas
Date: 19-Mar-17

After 18 years on here I'm used to it. Jawge

From: MStyles
Date: 19-Mar-17

My own instincts led me away from the thread.

From: 2 bears
Date: 19-Mar-17

I am sorry I hate to go against the grain here and while I admire and respect many folks on the thread and especially the ability and talent of Jeffer.I doubt that any one can equal him but I have seen a lot more of his talent through videos than others. You can see who starts a thread with the first click. The name will be right on top. This is the finest example of trolling I have seen since joining the "Wall" It offered not a shred of advise, encouragement,or help, nor did it ask a question for advice.(not that he needs any) It is the first thread where I have not read ever post and look how many there are already. Since I don't care to read all the negativity I zoomed to the bottom,to post my 2ยข worth. Flame all you want. You know it is the truth.>>>-----> Ken

From: Den

I can't believe I finally read the whole thing yesterday, I'd been ignoring it since it started. The only worthwhile thing I got from it was your videos Jeffer.

From: reddogge Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member

Proud to say I DID NOT POST ON IT and glad of it.

From: N. Y. Yankee
Date: 19-Mar-17

A poster there got it right when he said the guy sure got a lot of bites on that cast (or something like that) meaning the OP was just fishing anyway. Id like to see a real hardcor "set" aimer hit moving targets like Jeffer does. Go tell Byron that instinctive is a failure. I bet it would sure come as a surprise to him.

From: Bloodtrailin

DOES ANYONE REALIZE THIS THREAD JUST TURNED INTO A CONTINUATION OF THE FIRST BEAST.....LMAO!!!!

From: DanaC

... if it's any consolation, your videos are the perfect embodiment of the Bernstein paradox in action and I often show them to my post grad Neuro students

Seems like there is enough going on around us everyday to get upset about.....I left this alone.

From: Bob Rowlands

Agree about Jeffer. Instinctive King for sure what an inspiration. He and kids vids are great as well. Blah blah blah blah instinctive threads wah hh wahhh wahh lol... not so hot.

From: tagalong2

I'm not sure what shooting style I use but it works for me so I don't think I'll stick with what puts the arrows where I want them.

From: Bowlim
Date: 19-Mar-17

"other then when people start saying stuff that is just dumb."

And that is what it is mostly about. Archers know archery, but this is really a matter of semantics, and it is like watching geriatrics try to do an Olympic routine on the rings.

From: fdp
Date: 19-Mar-17

Bowlim....that's funny.

From: hvac tech
Date: 19-Mar-17

Well the guy that started the thread knew how to get things wound up . i think he got that much done the end result is 99 percent of the guys will keep doing the same thing they have been doing . i know i am not going to change , maybe he wanst to write a book about the subject and is just testing guys out .

From: RonG
Date: 20-Mar-17

I can't believe that many people actually have different opinions on looking at what you are shooting at.

I made my usual joke, I shoot as well as Jeff but I use a 12 inch wide point on my arrows.

I used to answer these things also, but it didn't take long to figure out what was happening, Frisky is a good one for these.

Be careful Jeff, this may turn into the other post....Ha!Ha!

By the way, great shooting, I will never shoot that well on purpose.

From: Babbling Bob Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Jeffer is "The Man", and I shoot INSTINCTIVE!

From: GLF
Date: 20-Mar-17

lmaooooooooooooo. So on the anti "instinctive thread" thread a couple guys who can't handle people not agreeing with em try n turn this thread into the thread its against?? I'm so confused!!!!

From: RymanCat
Date: 20-Mar-17

Shoot the way you want you learned it!

This will keep going like a disease.LOL

From: GLF
Date: 20-Mar-17

People talk about others only listening to what they already believe. How many times have you and others completely ignored one of the dictionary definitions of instinct? instinct:behavior that is mediated by reactions below the conscious level. Seems that's what we're speaking of, aiming below the conscious level.

From: Newhunter
Date: 20-Mar-17

Yes and if you dont learn its not the end of the world, buy a nice rifle or start knitting.

From: Lucas

Good grief. So I make a joke thread for fun inspired by seeing others attacking each other on the other thread when we should stand together and not apart, and now this one has turned into that. This proves there is no Santa Claus and we are doomed as a society.

From: Backcountry

It simultaneously frustrates, amazes, irritates and amuses me that someone like Jeffers says "I shoot this way..." and others come along and say "No, you dont."

If you play much golf you will find the same discussions. And then you will also find a number of golf legends that were and are remarkable inspite of what many would call poor form.

From: YH2268 Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

I don't believe there is any such thing as "instinctive shooting", unless maybe you got your eyes closed. I do believe however, that some guys have better methods of "aiming" and are able to go through the shot process more consistently then others. My 2 cents worth.

The last time I looked at it, I went out back and snap shot 200 arrows as fast as I could. okay, as far as my property stretches that works just as well as aiming, 30 yards. DOWN WITH ALL OF THAT TARGETY AIMY STUFF. Time to get back to real archery, a ping pong ball on a piece of fishing line swinging in the breeze.
