I have been playing with forging , grinding and working metal. I am not the knifemaker that my friend on here, CJE is, but here is a new hunting knife I made, red oak scales and acid washed steel.

Thanks Shon

Great looking knife! What kind of steel did you use? What type of forge? - John

Nice lines on that blade, good work!

303 anealed billet The lines are good because my blacksmith master straightened it! He has a 4000 blower and a little pot forge. Can't really make anything longer than 7-8 inches. It looks good in the pic but has lots of flaws! I am learning still.

Thanks guys, I made a couple others already, let's just say they are at my house not to be seen by public. This one was pretty decent.

Looks nice. Love that style sheath personally!!! Keep it up and everyone will get easier and better.

DUDE!!!!!! Thats a pretty slick knife ya got there, great job! Anyone would be proud of one like that, your knife making addiction is only getting started my friend, can't wait to see what else you turn out, keep at it!

I am also learning how to use a grinder and a belt sander. If it wasn't for my teacher, I couldn't even imagine doing this. 45 years old and taking a new hobby. The grinder is tricky for me for some reason. Steve can take a piece of pounded metal and then grind it to get a finished look like nothing I can do right now.

Thanks CJE! These still aren't replacing my Skinner or neck knife you made me!

You can see I wear my neck knife a lot!

Yes sir, there it is! You are a great craftsman in about anything you do, thats for sure. If you are like me, you will use one knife for a couple months, get bored with it then make another, and another, and another.....pretty soon you will have a knife for every hunting trip, season, and occasion.

Shon can make you a hat as well. I now know why coyotes don't get cold. I wore this to a 3D shoot a couple weeks ago. It was below freezing but I was poring sweat when I got done.

From: bodork

Great looking knife for sure!! I wish I was only 45 years old when I started making knives and I still only do stock removal so my biggest obstacle was mastering the grinder. I[d love to forge one just don't have the space. Just go slow and before long you will feel like the grinder is an extension of your hands. Keep up the good work! Mike

Very nice. How much and what kind of forge does that require? I would love to forge some blades or should I say try. Being from Moorehead Ky it may be over my head.LOL. great job.can i make a forge fairly cheap?

From: Longspurwv
Date: 16-Mar-17

As far as blacksmithing questions I am still learning all the terms. The forge my bed has is just a small bowl type forge with a 4000 series blower hooked up on it. If your on FB look me up and send me a friend request, I have some video on there of some smithing work that we did. As far as the acid wash. He put something in the quenching oil. I want to say hydrochloric acid? I will have to ask on my next learning session. It just engrained the dark color, then we ground and sharpened the blade then he put a wire through the handle and let it sit in the oil again while we had lunch.
