Is just a way people describe shooting a Bow. A method of aiming without using a conscious reference.
There is no need to "FOCUS" as to its existence.Total waste of time in my experience and only stirs up an argument.
I think we need to agree on this and let it drift in the Ocean in a bottle that says "Instinctive is only a word that describes how some people say they cast an arrow from a Bow",

This is where I yearn to be with my Bow. I do not care how anyone else doe's it as long as they are legal. I do not care if they use Compounds or Guns either.
No need to discuss much, the picture says it all of a very content old Man in the Mountains I am.

Instinctive is nothing but a learned way of using hand and eye coordination. Has worked for thousands of years and will continue into the future. People who object to the name are severely anal retentive in their desire to be politically correct and how smart they are. Hillbilly I love your saying it is so true "Its all about meat in the pot not an arrow in the spot" You nailed it.

With the light draw bow I have been shooting lately, if I had four hands, I could drink a hot cup of Tim Horton's coffee before I release. When shooting very short targets split finger with that bow, wonder if that would be instinctive?

IF 'instinctive' shooting seems so poor, I suspect it's a matter of reading comprehension.
Go back and read G. Fred's original book. He stresses the need for good form and practice, and that it is a method for -close- shots on game. Nowhere does he claim it's the berries for max distances at an IBO championship. Or medaling at the Olympics.
I've been shooting without aiming for twenty years now. It started working okay for me -after- I started working on solid, consistent form. Within limits. At some distance my old eyes just don't pick a spot', the whole stinkin' target is a blur! To step up to serious competition, I'm going to need an aiming system.
Think of close-quarters combat handgun shooting versus target rifle shooting. If a shooter only learns one of those disciplines, he probably won't excel at the other. To be competent in both, he needs to study both. (While maintaining the fundamentals of shooting all guns.)

If you are old enough to have a NFAA patch with a skunk on it, its gotta be instinctive by now.
But I can always learn new tricks, and a go-go boot quiver would be a real kick in the pants ;-)

I've still have one of those skunk "Instinctor" patches.
Seems like shooting those 6-inch bird shot walk-up NFAA targets (25 to 35 ft) was shooting instinctive, while shooting in the Instinctive Division. Think that would be called "double instinctive".
Never mounted my Instinctor patch on anything and just stuck it in an old metal box. If I have been wearing it, that would have distinguished me as an Instinctor shooting double instinctive.
