For you Martin/Howatt guru's: Trying to date my Martin/Howatt X200, serial # 2342. Also searching for the factory recommended brace? Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking its 1992? No tip overlays.

Gurus do not tend to own X200.

Darrin, I think the fast flite tips on the X-200 started in 2008 so yours could be a 2002. Most other Howatts started the fast flite reinforced tips in 1995. But, a pics is worth a lot of help.

For the brace height, I think Martin recommended 7 3/4" - 8 1/2".

Camodave, I think that was a little rude. The x200 is a fine bow. Much better than it's competitor the Bear Grizzly!

By "guru's" I meant those that have been around Martin/Howatt bows for a long time and would have knowledge of such trivial questions for us that have not been. Ive been a bowhunter for 30 plus years and a single-string bowhunter for the last 7. And don't worry, I've come to expect such rude behavior from several guys here. They regularly spew insults and name-calling to anyone who don't agree with their view of the "traditional" world. And they run off more new people to our pastime than anything else combined. But I'm thicker skinned than that so they aint running me off....Ha! :)

Find me a Damon Howatt guru who owns an X200 and I will retract my statement. I have shot a number of X200's and none of them impressed me in the least. Being better than a Grizzly is faint praise. Just so you know I have owned 9 Damon Howatt bows.

Dave you are nothing nice. I'm a self bow guru, just ask me and I'll tell you more in an hour than your brain has room for. That doesn't mean I have to love every usable bow wood and own a bow from it to be a guru. Narrow minded fools anger me.

I am not a guru but I have an X200 and have owned it for many years. It is quite a good bow. I prefer it to any of the later model Grizzlys. I shoot it several times a week even though I have high end bows hanging right next to it.

Sorry, but I can't age the bow. Never really considered it as there isn't much of a market for them due to some undeserved bad comments. They are a 60" bow and not intended for a knickle dragger with a 32" draw to use then complain that they stack. For people with 29" and under draws, they are an excellent and economical choice.

Dave, I had three Martin/Damon/Howatt bows and they were excellent, I would consider them to be equal to any other re-curve, I didn't have the X-200, but looking at it and reading many opinions on trad-bow sites, it didn't take a back seat to anyone's.

Probably a 2002. I'm not a guru, but I do own a X-200.

No Guru either, I have a Hunter, a Mamba, and a 2013 X-200. All great bows that can shoot much better then my expertise. Martin listed the brace height for an older one like yours at 8-8 1/2.

I am not sure what a Guru is, is that like an expert, (a has been, slight dribble)

I don't know but I guru up with my brothers and three sisters.

Sorry guys...my humble opinion of a "guru" is someone in-the-know, someone who knows their "stuff" about certain things. Kinda like a guy that's really into certain brands of old cars, they have lots of knowledge about them from years of collecting/restoring.

Well Dave, Mr. Hatfield stated he owns a X200. Personally I don't think many people know more about traditional bows than him.

Far from being a "guru", I have owned a lot of Martin bows. The x200 is a fine bow and I love mine. I have knocked down numerous critters with it.

With apologies to Larry Hatfield, he is indeed a guru in the most recognized use of the term, which is an influential teacher or expert.

I just happened upon another sweet X-200!!! And I can't wait to get it. I plan on making it SING when bow season opens. You fellas who scoff and poo-poo the x200 are missing out. I think the name turns people off instantly. If it were called something more "romantically traditional" I think this model of Martin would've been more popular. I would really love to have a zebrawood model.

I sold mine because I wanted to be a Guru. But Jimmy Blackmon uses one for his hunting bow.

I just acquired a used x-200 at 55 pounds. It shoot fast and is very stable for my type of shooting, It doesn't stack at 29 inch draw but seems a bit harder or less smooth to draw than my 60 lb hunter; but so far I like it.

I like the way this one shoots. It's a super hunting bow. I've killed around 20 deer with it and a nice turkey
