Got my hikry stik in shape to start floor tillering, but before I do, the lower limb has a 1/2" deflex in it, and overall, the bow is reflexed about 2". And since I'm totally a new bowyer, need advice on this dilemma. The bow will wind up 66", and shooting for 55# @ 28".

Definately dry heat, but I would actually get it floor tillered first. That's a lot of wood to try to bend. Thinner will be much easier and safer. Try to have your belly to 1 growth ring when you're reflecting it if possible.

btw: From the pic, it doesn't really look like there is enough difference to worry about.

I have had trouble making small corrections with dry heat on hickory ...Steam has worked better for me. Although Hickory does like its belly well toasted with dry heat..being a tension strong wood. DBar

Yup, too much wood, worked it down today and should bend OK. Will be bending tomorrow and see how she goes. And thanks for the input guys, it's all welcome and much appreciated! Wyatt

Well, steamin' went well on the lateral problem, next will be the lower limb deflex fix. I'll do that tomorrow. Coming along, slowly! This bow won't let me be impatient, too much shavin' time!lol Wyatt

Steamin' the lower limb for reflex, then for lateral runout, think the stave was maybe still green, but it's workin' out so far, should be able to put 'er on the tiller stick next week. Still fun so far! Wyatt

Clamped her down and heat gunned her this time, think she's gonna work, maybe! Gonna let her sit for 3 weeks to take a final set, I hope, and then get to tillering for real.
