Just curious which style of longbow you prefer and why? I shoot both but due to degenerative elbow joint issues find myself with an R/D longbow in hand. Looking forward to hearing from lots of longbow shooters. Thanks.

I like several kinds of longbows. My favorites are selfbows/unflatbows, but I like English longbows, d/r bamboo backed bows, and an occasional sinew backed bow too. I got away from fiberglass about 20 years ago and don't miss it.

No one said you HAD to Dave. As for me, I like the looks of an R/D over the D shapes and I think they perform better with little to no h%&*#@*&k. To each his own of course.

for me the very mild reflex deflex longbows like ( wallace mountain, Fox archery , Northern mist superior ) are probably the smoothest and best behaving
the set back ,straight and string follow ASL's are great but a a little more vibration(but I really don't notice it after shooting for awhile)
The hybrids have a higher performance
I tend to favor the very mild reflex deflex followed by the set back ASL ( but that is just what I'm used to)I have a wallace Mountain that I wouldnt take nothing for as my John Schulz with set back - not a fad- been shoting the Schulz since the 80's

Ditto what Andy Man says in the first three lines.
I've shot a few mild r/ds that have as much or more hand shock than the ASLs. A comfortable, but relatively loose grip, a low stretch string and heavier arrow go a long way to reduce hand shock and resultant elbow pain, regardless of the bow design.

Orion, I do like the low stretch string and realatively heavy arrows also about 10+ gpp
never liked the feel of the dacron

Where does a Harrison American Wolf fall Ralph? Does have some r/d to it I think.

R/d for speed. Hard to shoot slow after going so fast

R/D for me as well. Arthritis in my hands forced me to sell my ASL. I liked the romance of the ASL, backquiver, swing draw, etc. but honestly I never shot it as well as my R/D LB.

Not sure I could pick just 1 style over the other. I really like my slight string follow bow and how it shoots. I really like my mild d/r bow that's a really fine shooter. The bow I'm shooting exclusively for the time being is a mild d/r flatbow.

I like them all . LOL. But I like a R/D bow that still strings up D shape the best. Just like the overall feel of a bow like that the best. Just my 2 cents.

Like the way my ASL string follow shoots. Smooth with no hand shock. I really like it's D shaped profile.
Shot a friends BW PLX and another friends R/D Shrew once and liked the way they shot as well.

I prefer ASLs, never felt any hand shock, except once when playing with string walking way off center, and a 65 lbs bow.
