Yours look like a 2011 to 2013 ( Red Stripe & Black Dymond Wood & Compass ). Properly a 2011. That TDB-11 on your riser may mean 2011, but I'm not 100% sure. Some of the other guys may know for sure.

Here are some pictures of mine. I'm currently saving for another one.

From: J-Shooter
Date: 21-Feb-16

That pic may not be of the exact bow you bought, but the serial number should indicate it was made in April of 2011, the 38th bow produced.

Hey Phil I like the puff silencers on the middle bow. Reminds me of the days of punk rock. :)

No TD pics unfortunately, however Moose's posts are making it hard not for me to buy one. I live a few miles from the factory, and they tell me the guy who makes the TDs is the manager of the traditional department and one of their best bowyers. With the attention to detail that goes into TDs, I guess there's a reason no blemish models ever pop up.

I have a 2013 '59, and the fit and finish is among the best I've seen on a production bow. The limbs and tips are beautifully slender. I'm used to shooting 25" riser ILF target bows, so my assessment on the shooting qualities is probably a little biased. Sometimes its a fun to feel the bow working during the shot. My silly plan for this spring is to replace my indoor bow with my '59 kodiak and shoot huge diameter aluminums on 300 rounds.

Yep that's a 2011 with the red stripe KodiakTD

I've got the catalog laying around somewhere............

I've got a Fred Bear Custom TD (or whatever they called them when decided they needed a name change). Anyways its just like Kodiak's 1997 bow except left handed, 65# limbs (maybe kodiak's is too, forget), a 1998 production year, and only has roughly 50 shots put through it. Bought it on the auction site, still had the plastic, manual, string, stringer, factory box, and fred bear sports club registration card. Who thinks I should fill it out and send it to Gainesville? Lol

Haven't seriously shot it because I'm hunting a 8 arrow quiver for it and I need to but the Easton legacy arrows for it.

Real Nice HBK!!! :)

Tell me....I'm kind of new to my old Green stripe "B" riser which is equipped with that same lower quiver screw with the oversized head...three questions....

1. Do they still sell those old style Bear Quivers as new?

2. Are they quiet and stable?

3. What does the other end of that top wire mount to?...the TD bracket itself?

I have just this one. I have a set of Kevin T made RER limbs on it. I also have a set of new #1 red tip limbs but I prefer the RER limbs. Very fast. Grip is not my favorite but hey, it is a Bear TD.

Bill

From: Greg D
Date: 10-Mar-16

Ardent Archer, I don' t think I have seen that many lefties ever. You have some unusual grip/shelf configurations in there. Did you make those mods on your own or did you order them like that. I think they are more in line with how FB liked his bows cut. What about the one with the adjustable side plate like the mag risers, was that an option?

From: stick33
Date: 10-Mar-16

stick33's embedded Photo

Green stripes naturally came w/ the low "Fred Bear" shelf. Once guys realized how nice the grips were, their popularity soared.

Its called the converta quiver i use the 4 arrow model No not still in production you have to search for them on the internet or otherwise make sure u get one in good shape the rubber on these can be replaced and used wth carbon arrows ! They work nicely for me very Quite and stable the top arm fits around the top limb !!!

From: HillbillyKing Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 10-Mar-16

I also use the Converta Bowquiver adapter kit that fits in to the stabiliser hole on the bow on wood handles however you can just use the bolt on some bear T Ds you also have too find these!!!

Greg D, I only wish I would not have sold the other 5 risers I had including a rare 1970 (Type I) A-handle. The ones in the middle of the photo (mid-1980s) have the reduced "Fred Bear" shelf. They came that way form the factory. You are correct that they are more in line with how FB liked his bows cut but his were cut even more drastically. Fred shot off his knucle. The adjustable side plate was standard for the Type II (1971-72) Fred Bear Take-down handles.

Nock buster, I like my two-tone best. :) it's an A and the shelf is cut halfway between the green stripe and the bubinga - about 1/4" above my finger.

But I like the way the green stripe fills my hand. It's a touch blockier or fuller than my newer bows.

1996 Bear Kodiak Takedown

Dark o.d. green ( Bear Archery calls it Traditional Camouflage ), less than twenty-five kodiak takedowns were made in this finish according to Neil Byce from Bear Archery.

Ardent Archer, in your picture of your B and A handle on Mar 10, the A handle appears to be a type I but with an adjustable side plate. Is this correct? Thanks Shick

From: HillbillyKing Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 14-Mar-16

Its a type 2 they had that adj side plate !!!

From: HillbillyKing Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 14-Mar-16

If you look at Bowjacks B handle above its a type2 B also wth the same sideplate

From: HillbillyKing Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Opps its an a handle also LoL

JR, I know what you are saying, and you are the man, but I also see the 'J" coming across the back of the shelf and do not see the riser cut on an angle like on the 'other type II's and green stripes there after. Shick

I talked to Big Jim late last year and he put me on his list for a black maple A riser. Told him I'd hold out until he came across something "unique". He shot me a text late last week and this one is currently sitting in the local Post Office waiting to be picked up on Tuesday. Love the "carmel swirl".

You guys are killin me here!!!!!!!!!AAAAARRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!

I saw at least six I would love to have, three I would walk a hundred miles for, (I would have said around the world, but my right leg won't let me go too far) and one I would just die for.

KodiakTD I know that I didn't have to look at this thread, but I couldn't resist......now I have to go take my heart medicine.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to show your beautiful TD's....I'm jealous, I'm envious, I'm crying, I'm going away now.....RonG

Frank, I have been tempted to go and try out the new ones. I don't think they would put out a bad bow with Fred's name on it.

The ones that are shown in this thread are beautiful....Ron

I posted a couple pictures under my old handle Kodiaktd so I'll post one under my new handle. Here is my 1990s Bear Hunter TD ( 60#@28 ) that I had camo dipped. For being Bear Archery's economical takedown from 1988 to 2001 it is a great shooting bow.

Grizzly21, if you ever decide to sell one of those LH TD Supreme's let me know. I have been looking hard for one...

Here is my Greenstripe and I have another one on the way!

From: Orion Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 16-Apr-19

Ugly Coyote: How did you date your Green stripe to 1976? According to George Coppen's book, bear reintroduced/brought back the Bear TD in the form of the Green stripe riser in 1981.

I have a green stripe with a serial number close to yours, no. 2854. Based on some serial number lists I saw on another site, I dated mine about 1981/82. That's also about when the person I got the bow from said he bought it.

From: SB
Date: 17-Apr-19

Too bad you couldn't find a decent bow quiver for it Frisky!

From: Frisky
Date: 17-Apr-19

I was given that quiver with the bow. It's quiet and works well. My own quiver will be much better though. My 1st model will be for 1 piece bows, but then I'll make one for Bear TDs. It will have a much better hood.
