Just picked up a couple Light weight York longbows. Nice shooters, fun to shoot. Anyone shoot these bows? Curious to know more about them.

York Archery was located in Independence Missouri and was one of the very early pioneers of archery. In the early days provided a lot of bows, arrows and targets to schools that taught archery as part of their PE curriculum. I grew up there and played baseball with the owner/president's son.

Interesting Monte. You must be old like me. I have yet to see one of the old York bows. Arvin

Ol' Buck was prominent on the Leatherwall from 2006 to 2013 traveling around the country. I'm sure you guys saw him as some time...if not just in photos. He's a York longbow, backed with clarified calfskin...still shooting to this day....and being productive. York was made by Woodcraft Equipment Company in Independence, Mo. They also made some good recurves as well into the early 1980's as far as I can remember.
Most of their old longbows were of lemonwood, which could be just cut to shape on a band saw, and took minimal work to make into a bow. That fact lead the lemonwood bow to mass production and a skibillion of them sold. The Stemmler brand (Ist company to manufacture bows for sale) and York were among the most prolific until Pearson came along in the late 1930's.
