Why are Wes Wallace more costly than his mentors bows ? It would seem that a original Brackenbury would cos a lot more, the quality is the same or better. It has to be something more than the FF string.

don't no where you look but new brack bows cost a lot more then a wes Wallace 1200.00 for a brackenbury and 635 to 725.00 for a wes wallace

I have an original Brackenbury with three sets of limbs. It's a great bow but I don't shoot it anymore.

I now shoot a longbow at lighter weights.I'd like to sell the Brackenbury. Anyone interested, send me a private message.

With due respect Bill's Bracks are much nicer looking the the originals.Technique has improved in all customs from the pioneers IMO especially fit and finish.

From: TradbowBob
Date: 02-Nov-14

You would be hard pressed to find a better bow than a Wes Wallace. I see no reason to pay almost double.

Are you referring to original Bracks or those now made by Bill Howland?

Here's a recent article on current Bracks:

I recently spent five hours in Bill's shop talking-- and mostly listening-- about how he builds his bows. I don't know how anyone could be trying much harder to make perfect bows... I was deeply impressed by his approach and commitment, and I have to think that someday his bows will be real collector's items.

Life's about choices, and there are plenty when it comes to good quality custom bows. Buy what you can afford and enjoy it.

I'm on my third Brack right now. It's a Quest model Bill made for me about five years ago. It's my Old Man bow, 45# and smooth as butter.

I couldn't tell you how they compare to a Wallace since I've never seen one. I can say Brackenbury's have always been a quality bow that shoot great.

From: Ibex
Date: 03-Nov-14

Jim and Wes both built bows for me many years ago. Wes was building great bows then, and I'd assume he still is. I've never shot one of Bill's bows, but have heard only good about them. Looks to me like 650 will get you a new Wes Wallace Partner. I was paying 375 for them in 1990 and they are still shooting great. That's a pretty modest mark up for 24 years!

From: Ibex
Date: 03-Nov-14

Besides that Wes has "Hero Pictures " on his site now. lol

From: Westksbowhunter

I believe I paid $350 for my first custom made bow, a Brackenbury Drifter.

I can't speak as a bowyer, but common to many truly great teachers and mentors is a desire to see their students exceed their own their own skills and abilities. Some even measure their success by it. If Jim Brackenbury were alive today, he would probably be quite impressed with the bows made by those he taught, mentored, and inspired - and as a mentor, he would probably expect improvement!

Well said, picapica!

From: Elkhuntr

"Why are Wes Wallace more costly than his mentors bows ?"

The short answer is they are not more expensive when adjusted for inflation.

Any comparison to an original Brack is going to be a used bow, obviously. The used original Bracks have held their value as good as or better then others.

Wes is building one of the highest quality and best value line up of bows available today.

From: GLF
Date: 05-Nov-14

Jims whole thing in building bows was to give guys good shooting bows in a timely fashion and keep the cost down. He used to dog guys who charged so much for bows and guys who took longer than needed to build one just so they could gouge people with higher costs. His bow were and would still be if he were alive , the lowest cost customs made. Wes has kept that same idea to a point.

I have an original Brack Legend with two sets of limbs. It has been on here for sale previously. If anyone is interested, pm me, and I will give full details.

An original Brack has been on my short list for a while, but it seems the ones I find are too stout for me.

I agree about Wes' bows being first class and very reasonable in price. Mr. Howland makes nice ones too, but I can't wait that long for a new one and his used ones seldom appear.

I have an original Brack legend. its in great condition, any idea what its worth? 66" 63#@31"

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 16-May-17

It's weird but they don't sell for what they should.Does it have tip overlays? Many are >60# which is too much for he-men now.Probably $250 if you find a Bracket purist.

Woodmizer, I bought a very nice Legend eight or nine months ago for $400. It had a $100 quiver on it so I figure I paid in reality about $350 for the bow. Mine is a 64" 61#@31". It actually scales 51 1/2# @ 28". This bow was signed by Jim so it is pre 1991.

Any of you guys wanting to sell, PM me with the details. The older ones are still in demand if they are a reasonable pull weight. I saw one sell in a matter of minutes after posting a couple of months ago for $300.

I have a two-piece take-down longbow made by Jim Brackenbury. It's an "Old Timer". It's in a nice custom leather case. It's a pretty nice bow! I also had a Wes Wallace "Royal" a number of years ago that I wish I had never sold. It was a very sweet longbow!

My Wes Wallace Mentor. It was a buy it now or best offer listing on Ebay. They were asking something like $700 for it. I offered $300 and bought it. The finish was scuffed scratched so I refinished the riser. The limbs were fine so I just cleaned them up a little.

Boy Jeff, I think your scabbard for your 2 piece longbow Rocks. Very Cool!

I have a couple of W Wallace bows, a Royal and a Mentor, they are a pleasure to shoot.

From: Sinner
Date: 20-May-17

Thanks! I can't take credit for the scabbard, though. It came with the bow when I bought it. It is pretty awesome! I had a Royal a number of years back that I wish I had never sold. It was a great longbow.

From: Brad Lehmann Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member
Date: 20-May-17

I saw that scabbord the other day and thought about how well it compliments the bow. It has me thinking about how I could build one for a three piece. That is a really attractive and well thought out system.

It's everything I hoped for, very smooth like my old Partner that I should't have parted with. I contacted Wes and he said he built the bow after Jim's death. I'm happy to have it.

I'm especially enjoying how well this bow shoots heavy arrows. 2419s with 190 Grizzlies like it's not even trying. Super quiet with it's Dacron string.

I have a Peerless that Bill made just before he retired, one solid bow. Sad to see him move on with his talent but hope the best for him.

From: Iwander

Mine is 68# at my 29 1/2" draw. Wes said he still builds limbs for the older bows.
