I have a bunch of turkey wings I've been saving, hoping to get fletching made from them. Does anyone know someone who can turn these into fletching?

Stykzz on this forum.

I also make my own...5" LW shield, though I'm still learning.

You can....with a fletching clamp, scissors and/or exacto knife, and some sandpaper.

I think there are some how-to videos on youtube.

stykzz (Todd) grinds the feathers on halfs. He posted on the "April Swap and Trade" thread.

I had several hundred feathers saved up and he did a great job for me... both primaries and secondaries.

What George said. I just cut em to length, hand trim to my desired shape with sharp scissors, put it in my Bitz clamp, and file/sand the quill.

They fly great, but I don't hunt with them. I can't see them very good in low light conditions.

But...they do look pretty cool on wood shafts!

I would second sending them to Stykzz. Even nicer living within driving distance of him. Todd chopped two dozen tiny feathers for my son's bow and he showed me how he grinds the feathers on a custom jig. Very talented man.

Another vote for doing it yourself. Takes me less than 60 seconds a feather.

If you want them to be more visible, splice a little piece of white feather on the back, add a little white paint and white nock. It's a good compromise, you can see them in flight from the back like they were all white, but it's not a quiver full of white feathers that will alert game more easily.

I have a few of each in this quiver.

Very nice Jeff....I too suggest do it your self. DBar

I made a jig similar to the great northern, but i find i get better results by first cutting feather to length and then holding in a fletching clamp and using a belt sander set on medium speed. Grind down the flat first then slim down the edge. The take Koolaid dye very well.

Hey rifleman, can u explain to me honey died those feathers? I have a bunch of left wings. I work at a sporting goods store and people know to bring me the left wings. Both turkey and goose. And on another note, Todd, u might be hearing from me. Lol

I heat a pan of water on stove a put in some dawn dish soap--- not boiling just hotter than you can keep your fingers in. Put feathers in for several minutes. Rinse all of the soap out with cold water.

Heat water in pan again--- same temp-- hot, but not boiling. Put in three or four packs of Koolaid. Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Add feathers and let them sit for several minutes--- you will see the color go out of the water and into the feathers. I like to give them plenty of time to get good and bright colors.

Cont'd--- my phone also has it out for me.

Rinse dyed feathers well with cold water.

Lay them out on paper towels to dry.

Good luck with them--- very easy to do and great colors!

Also if you keep the water temp below 120 degrees they won't curl up on you some much.

Nice work guys, I will have to try that. Both fletch, and dying them. Got wings that need to be done, and shafts that need them. And turkeys out back waiting for me to go after them.
