The first ShrewHill bow is 68" and it came out at 48#@ 28". Bamboo and yew lamination's, Bubinga riser. She's very slim and trim and I almost named her "Slim Girl" after one of Howards bows but she's called "Alpha"

Ron, that's a fine looking bow! Are you going to add that bow to your line?

It's a straight bow with no backset or string follow. The narrow limbs and handle made for a very light weight bow, probably under 1 pound. Gregg made two strings for it, a B-50 dacron and a 450+/B-50 blend. I've only shot it with the Dacron string so far and it has a pleasing..."Thummm" sound. No noticeable hand shock and it really spits my 50-55# cedars. I think the light trim limbs account for it's quickness and lack of aftershock.

Like the grip......alot!

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Ron, what kind of blend of 450+ and B-50? Those are way different characters with nearly opposite stretch/no stretch qualities.

From: Ron LaClair Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 23-Jul-11

On our other Shrew bows we use 6 strands of 450+ and 2 strands of B-50. We've been using that for over a year now with good results. The 2 strands of B-50 dampen the noise without inhibiting the performance of the 450+

Sorry, I was just speechless at seeing the Shrew Hill bow and didn't realize I hit the submit button.

From: Ron LaClair Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 23-Jul-11

Yes, the ShrewHill bow is being added to the Shrew line of bows. I've actually been taking orders for it for the last several days. I foretold about it near the tail end of a thread I started a few weeks ago.

Great looking bow Ron. But, the arrow rest was put on the wrong side :) .

Actually Tom, with the bow in hand the shelf is on the RIGHT side...8>)

I had to have the 1st one made LH so I could give it a good evaluation.

From: Longbowsmith

Ron, that is exactly what I think of when I think Longbow. It's fantastic. Of course, I'ld expect nothing less.

Simple but very effective elegance. In the hands of someone who takes full responsibility for the shot it is as effective in the field as any other bow and much more enjoyable to carry and shoot.

Those specs duplicate a HH Wesley Special that I have and it is a wonderful bow.

Well done Ron.

Probably not until I get back from Denton Hill

Ron. Who did you have shooting that target? That groups a little to big for you isn't it? :•)

From: Blackfoot

How long of a wait to get one????

From: Arwin
Date: 24-Jul-11

Sweet!!! I have a very soft spot in my heart for Hill style bows even though I don't shoot a straight grip quite as well as a hybrid grip.

Every one I've shot has been a soft thump on release if you have a heavy enough arrow. What do your arrows weigh Ron??

Nice work on that, Gregg sure does build a nice bow!

From: tomwatson
Date: 24-Jul-11

Can't wait until it appears on the web-site. Any idea of price yet Ron?

I'm a lefty! It would be an honor to relieve you of that cool bow! That way you could start on another! Matt.

We're working on it Tom

Arwin, I don't know what my arrows weigh, but they're fairly light.

love the yew lams, not to high on the square feathering of the bubinga handle, much more eye appealing with the round feathering.

I can't wait to hear owner's impressions of this bow. I have Sunset Hill being made now and find that I will have to start saving for a Shrew. I hope it is not in poor taste to ask but what will a Shrew Hill cost?

From: bigB
Date: 25-Jul-11

Dang I want one too. Very nice looking bow. You need to come set up at the Pre-Spring Arrow Fling Bow shoot here in Alabama in Feb. and bring some with you. Ol' Terry Harris would like that. It is the same place as the Howard Hill Shoot only a lot cooler than in June.

From: THarris
Date: 25-Jul-11

Yep Brandon, it is cooler and very laid back, even with approx 350 shooters last year.

I certainly invited Ron myself to come on down. I spoke with so many fellow archers while I was at the Compton Rendezvous, and many seemed very interested in the Pre- Spring Arrow Fling in February.

I do believe this February could have a very large turn-out of fun lovin' archers from all over.

There also could be a couple of surprises as well.

Has anyone purchased the Shrew Hill? Any pics and thoughts?

From: Jim Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 23-Apr-18

I shot one at KZoo back in 2012 I think and they are a very nice ASL. I may be wrong, but I think that Gregg was making them for Ron back then.

Had one and sold it .

From: Cameron Root
Date: 23-Apr-18

I cant see the pics?. I like blended strings. The ones I use to do would pic up a bit after 2 to 3 thousand shots. They can be a very quiet string. Rooty

Greg was making them. But I understand he stoped because they were difficult to make . The one I had was a dog !

From: foxbo

I always liked the lines of those bows. I'd still purchase one if the weight was not over 45#s and the bow was 68". I now have a MacDonald hillstyle and one crafted by Harry Elburg which is called a Condor. Got a Nate Steen Sunset Hill too. I love them all, but I'm getting too old to handle much over 45#s, unless I keep at the weights.
