I need to install a arrow rest on a bow , i shoot off the self. But this bow has a curved arrow self, im thinking maybe a Flipper style or a Brush type. What works with you guys ,who dont shoot off the self ??? Its not the best picture, but is has a good angle to the self. Thx AZ

I like the Hoyt Pro Rest, hunter model. They work great and are very durable.....been using them for decades. They are available for about $3.00.

I know this is not what you asked for, but I saw your post yesterday and at that time there had been no one offering any information on this bow. If it really is a one-off creation by an obscure bowyer I would not hesitate to modify it for off-the-shelf shooting. JMHO. -Joe

Either Hoyt Pro rest or a Bear Weather Rest.

I used the Bear weather rest for years and it always did the job well.

I like the little bear hair style rest for bows I can't shoot off the shelf.

Just because the shelf is curved does not mean that you can't use it. Build a glued, and stacked wedge of leather above the throat of the grip with a base width of about 1/2" front to back . File or cut with a sharp knife to finished height and shape. This should be a narrow point of arrow contact higher to the outside to prevent the arrow from falling off the rest. Probably not more than 1/4" high on the outside. Or use a dense foam shaped the same and then a strip of velcro over the top and down the sides of the wedge to the shelf.

There are other advantages to a stick on rest, including using a wider range of spine in arrow shafts. Limited contact, simple application and reapplication in the field if necessary. They have no detrimental affect on shooting either. I shoot off the shelf with my longbows, but always use a stick on rest on my recurves....even if they have a radiused shelf. Been doing that since the 60's.

I've been using Flipper Rest for 20+ years and haven't found a down side yet. What make of bow is that?

I use Bear weather rest on my Mamba - works well.

Your sight window curves onto the shelf. Whatever rest you use is gonna have to have a flexible backing or your'll be mounting it too high. Had that problem with some of the recurves that came out in the late 70's.

I like the Bear Weather Rest.

You can also trim the rest so it can be placed closer to the shelf. The rest in Ralphie's post has a round base. Trim the bottom of the base and it will fit closer to the shelf.

Im thinking what ever rest i would use, would need a little trim. This weekend im going to the local shop and see what they have on hand. AZ

felt furniture rub pads from walmart work good if you`re like me and cheap.

I recently took a rasp to a bow shaped like that. I cut it down to a more acceptable flat shelf. Then I added a rug rest with a small bit of leather shoe lace under it right at the deepest part of the grip. Shoots great.

The bow wasn't as nice as yours or I might have been hesitant to dig into it. I'd try a stick on as suggested.

On My Damon Howatt Monterrey I had a flat shelf. The arrows were leaving marks on the shelf pads from too much contact with the shelf. ( I shoot a lot). To raise the arrow off the shelf, I put the a short piece of twig I had cut down, like Beastmaster did with the lace, under the bottom shelf rest. The ideal solution I was told, would have been to slip a piece of a round toothpick under the bottom shelf. (unfortunately I only had flat toothpicks .... hence the twig ) .....) . The small piece of twig under the rest worked well. I think it is much better than shooting off a flat shelf. Okiak's idea of; Cutting down the bottom of the round rest so it sits closer and firmly near the shelf, is a wonderful idea ! ps. brush rests are super difficult to find ...

Weather rest set to the rear on my Howatt Hunter. Arm stubbed off wire flipper on my Super-K after wearing out a Hoyt type, Calf hair side plate and Walmart felt pad set with a gap between rest and shelf on my K-Mag, leather shelf pad and sideplate with wooden matchstick under on my longbow, brush rest on another K-mag, feathers on a Jack Howard.

I even have a Cartel plunger and T-300 metal flipper sitting on my bench, while I look for just the right bow to use them on.

Thats the way to do it. Have rest-need bow. (Grin)

I can miss what I'm aiming at with any of them.
