Had a blast this weekend. Ranger B is down here for a short time and we were able to link up and shoot.

It was raining on Saturday and my optimistic interpretation of the radar ensured I would never be employed by the Weather Channel! In spite of that we shot the practice butts, walked the course, then did some stumpin'.

It's always a great thing to shoot with other trad guys. Especialy other wallers. Ranger B is a first class fellow and I really enjoyed shooting with him!

This is me next to a tree that was "foaming". Corny "finger-point" pose left over from the 80's.

It was so wet I was thinking of the movie Cady Shack when the Priest was playing golf and shouting it was the best game of his life...then he was struck by lightning.

It was great to find someone to go stumpin' with.

Sunday was dry when we went. But everythin was still slippery wet. A little caution on this rickety old thing.

As Longbowsmith stated it was a real frog strangler on Saturday. I've been sick as a dog all week with the flu but it would have taken more than a little rain to keep me from slingin' cedar. Here's one of us today...in much better weather.

Full draw at 55yrds. That's one good lookin' selfbow Jimmy made. He can shoot it well too.

There were a few funny points as well. Of course, Ranger B will have the choice to disclose that info.

Here's my favorite way of enjoying the bow!

As this picture clearly shows, Longbowsmith is a high speed, low drag, Howard Hill Longbow shooting, steely eyed, string plucking kinda killer guy!

Some warmup shooting before we took to the woods.

Well, in response to Chris's disclosure statement, I'll just say that I'd been really sick all week and by the time we left the woods on Sat. there wasn't a napkin left in either truck. I think you woodsmen can relate. Nothing I couldn't suck up for a few hours of shooting though.

It was really a blast. Those who don't share our passion are truly missing out on one of life's gems. Ranger B

It rains in South Alabama?

HighPockets, after all the news I watched this summer I was on my watch. I figured if it started raining in Al we might see Floridians come up to fight for the water. This SE drought has caused some feuding. Ranger B

Well done gents, looks like a very good time, rain or no. Probably some good practice to, might have that buck of a lifetime show up when it is raining so its good to be ready. Practice for worst case and all...

Later.

Yes, water was a valuable commodity for a while up here. Now I feel like I live in Seattle!

what's up with teh foaming tree?

From: Scrub_buck
Date: 07-Apr-08

That is called 'slime flux' in the forestry world.

No major reprocussions for the tree, exept the unsightly ooze. Also there is some unwanted wood properties associated with it. As long as you are not wanting to make flooring or lumber from the Oak, its really a non-issue. I hadn't seen that since the final exam in my Forest Health class at Auburn.

Thanks Scrub_buck. We saw at least 2 other trees with the same condition within a 2-3 mile area.
